I've never bought anything online and had to send payment to outside of the US. I always send via money order (no paypal) which I purchase at my local Speed Way gas station and sometimes at the post office. If I buy something off eBay and pay through money order, does it matter where I get my money order if the seller is in Canada?

I dont think it matters because they can exchange it for canadian dollars... it will cost you more to send it out though!

BTW hubby and I love CKY...great band!!

Thanks a lot. And yes, CKY does rock. I'm trying to work out getting to the special Halloween show, but the venue and such still haven't been confirmed :(

You may want to contact the seller and find out what type of payment they require. Some banks in Canada will accept US money orders. Some will not.

Not trying to flame, but when I've had to purchase computer items from canada, I've had to use international money orders... Just keep on checking with them about it.

Check with the seller. There are two different types of MOs for Canada.

I think they are referred to as either Pink or Green which may coorespond to domestic or international.

If they say in their ad they take MO they will just be sure it is the right one.

You'd be safer buying an international money order to send, unless you contact them first and specifically ask.

The only time that I had to send a MO to Canada, the seller told me that he could cash a US postal money order (the regular kind) at his local bank. So I didn't have to purchase the international variety.

Just two cents from an eBay power seller gal ...

You should definitely consider getting a PayPal account. It's really easy to set up, and it's a great insurance policy. The reason is that if you pay someone for an auction and they don't send the product, it arrives damaged or defective, or there's any other kind of issue with the seller or the item you purchase, you can do a "charge back" and very possibly get your money back for that item. However, if you only ever send payment via money order, you're completely out of luck if you get the wrong item, a damaged item, or even no item at all. Money orders provide no protection -- which is why a lot of sellers prefer them. Definitely try out PayPal sometime ... Not everyone on eBay is dishonest or looking to pull a scam, but those people are out there, and every little bit of protection helps!

Enjoy using eBay, it's a great place!

I speak from experience on money order issue. Green refers to US POSTAL money order. Pink refers to international POSTAL money order.
The money orders you buy at speedway, walmart etc. may or may not be good in Canada I've gotten some that i could mail to Canada because they were in a sense International money orders and some that I couldn't mail to Canada. Unless your seller specifies a green money order I'd be VERY careful in making sure they can cash one you do send them.
I have a Cdn. money order a buyer sent me saying that I could cash it here in states, Well she was WRONG I can't.

Just to let you know that in my Post Office (where I work) there is a sign that reads USPS Domestic Money Orders are only good in the US. That said, I have several Ebay customers who send domestic money orders to Canada, but it has to be cashed at a bank that is set up to receive them. Only the seller can tell you which type they need. The money orders intended for Canadian use cost more, I believe it is $3.25 as compared to 90 cents for domestic, so no use buying that kind if you don't need to.

Just check with your seller as others have suggested.

I would get a PayPal account, but I am too young to have a credit card. I may sign up for a account using my mom's credit card, and then just give her the money for stuff I buy to deposit in her account...
