Hi,
I've been looking for a certain handbag on ebay and keep coming across the same bag that is a counterfeit ( I can tell because of the hardware on the bag). I reported it to ebay, and warned the highest bidder. Well, now that same handbag is being sold under a brand new account. I KNOW it is the same bag because they are using the same picture. I recognize the way the bag is placed and the fabric of the sofa it is sitting on. Well I reported it to ebay again because the person is claiming it is authentic.
Please be very careful when buying things from there. I don't know how people can be so mean. Do you think I should keep warning the bidders, or just let ebay handle it? The problem is, when you file a counterfeit report, you only give the auction #, and there is no place to leave an explanation.
I just feel so bad that someone is going to be ripped off. Why are some people so evil? It angers me that some people don't care about others! What would you do?

It's horrendous. I wanted to buy a Kate Spade bag off of ebay, and I had three different styles that would have suited me. Of course, I saw those styles everywhere.... only they weren't real Kate Spade. I made sure to do research on the 'net as to how to spot a counterfeit, and I was shocked as to how many were out there. It took me over a month to shop and monitor the auctions in order to find what I wanted that was authentic.

Can you post feedback for this seller? I always (and I'm sure others do, too) check the feedback and read them all.

Now, I'm looking to buy a digital camera, and ebay has a ton. I know the make and model that I want, but trouble is... are they new as they say? Refurbushed? Defective? Who knows. It's always a gamble, and for some things, I suppose it's just smarter to buy from a reputable source.

Good luck, and keep your eye on that seller!!! I applaud your efforts.

:cheer2:

I might suggest emailing the company that makes the original handbags and give them the old and new auction numbers. They are the best ones to take immediate and legal action against the seller.

Well obviously. I don't trust things off of e-bay. My wedding dress was bought off there but not for one second did I really think I was receiving a real David's Bridal dress. While the copy is beautiful, it is just a copy.

When buying off e-bay, always understand that most of the things are NOT originals. Your safer that way.

Not quite on topic but I have occasionally "hijacked" someone else's photo or text to sell my identical eBay item with (and vice versa). So a picture of "the same item" can appear under a different account.

Next trip: Jan 1-7 '05 Pop century, fingers crossed.

I've been known to do this myself (shhh), but be careful - it is against ebay rules.

Yes, it is against the rules....One time someone accused me of copying their photo and my auction was ended. My microwave was in the background and it was my photo from when I had sold the same item a year ago, that I relisted. I was mad!

I just posted a thread on the CB about fake North Face stuff.

I'm also curious about the fake purse. I've been lucky with the designer stuff I've gotten off of ebay but I'm going to be much more careful from now on.

It is a Dooney and Bourke Rasberry IT barrel bag. This bag is supposed to have a rainbow zipper, but doesn't. It's hard to spot, but if you look closely, you can tell. It's so sad that they would want to rip someone off.
Gridtalker, couldn't you report that seller to ebay? That's a shame they did that to you!
Someone suggested that I leave this seller a negative, but I can't since I didn't bid or win that item, right?

I once was accused of selling a fake autographed jersey by an ebay member...it was a very real, authentic jersey. With out going into all the details...here is what happened. That person emailed everyone of my bidders that it was fake & warned them to cancel their bids. One of the bidders contacted me to question it & forwarded the email from this guy...I contacted that person and warned him against contacting my bidders. We went around and around about it being a legitmate jersey or not...I finally reported him to ebay. He became suspended...you are not allow to contact bidders directly in regards to someone's else's auction...if that seller becomes aware of that and reports you to ebay you can become suspended....so be very careful. And I believe the person I was dealing with and emailing my bidders honestly believed it was a fake....so leave it up to ebay. Don't take actions into your own hands....you could be wrong!

O.k. I'm new to ebay, so didn't know I couldn't contact bidders. I won't anymore (promise!). No, that wasn't the item I was referring to, and I will not list the the item in case I am wrong. Mep319 is a good example of what can happen if I am wrong. I can tell you that the picture was taken from a counterfeit handbag. I know this because in the auction, someone asked if the bag had the rainbow zipper and the seller said no. Dooney and Bourke only makes that handbag with the rainbow zipper.
So maybe this second auction is a legitimate bid, but they ripped off that first auction's picture. I wasn't aware that people took other people's pictures. So, I guess I'll just have to sit back and watch. I will never report another fraud, since it sounds like it can come back and bite me in the you-know-what. I was only doing it because I don't like to see people being ripped off. This is a sad world we live in sometimes :sad2:

I recently bought a Dior bag and shoes off Ebay, for about $75 each (WAY more than what I ever spend on shoes/bags), and the auctions said they were authentic Dior. Then I got an email from someone saying she just wanted to let me know that she found out the items were fakes. I felt so bad spending so much money. :guilty:

I'm so sorry, Aisling. That's exactly what I'm talking about. People feel so victimized by things like this. I didn't realize I was breaking any ebay rules. I only was trying to prevent people from experiencing what Aisling went through.

DS wanted a pair of Aviator Sungrlasses - designer ones, he found them put a bid, and I asked what he was doing, then I explained they were fake, and he got mad (he was paying close to regular price btw) so I emailed the seller to ask if they were "authentic" and I had cut and paste from his description (he was claiming they were real) and if they were a copy, that my son was not interested. He wrote back a nasty note, but when he relisted the item, he put "looks like" in the description, and he didnt make me pay for the glasses, nor did he give me a negative feedback, I was so relieved!

Then I really wanted a I book from Apple, not a G4, so I thought $800 would be a good price, well dh went searching, and I was flabbergasted at the scams that are out there for the laptops, where you send money orders in accounts even, but are ripped off completely!! One guy elaporately went after a scammer, had pictures of the sellers place in England, it was completely a scam! This was last year, and I dont have it saved, but it has kept me off ebay.

You do have to be careful..that is why I will only pay by credit card so I can dispute the charge. If someone is only taking money orders I find that a bit suspect. But if you are in doubt contact the seller...if you are 100% sure it is fake contact ebay!

Is it possible that the seller truly believes it is real? We have a kiosk at the local mall that sells designer looking rip-offs. I'm not sure how they get away with it, but they do. I'm sure some of the people buying from them think they are getting the real thing. Other people, of course, are trying to take advantage of others and make some $$. Could you just contact the seller, as a potential bidder, and ask questions letting them know what they are describing is not, in fact, authentic? I haven't e-bayed in a while, but don't all of the questions and answers now appear on the auction page? You could word your question to clue others in that this may not be legit.

There's no way a bag that has the "DB's" all over it would be sold in the mall (or even LV for that matter). The kiosk would be shut down in a day. The mall ones usually say "BB" or "DD" on them, so I doubt this came from a mall kiosk. Chinatown perhaps (where people know the bags are fake) but no way from a mall.
