Hi,

I need some feedback/guidance here. I need it quick because my auction ends in 7 hours. I am selling my Universal Studios tickets on Ebay because we won't have the time to go there on our vacation after all. The high bidder has only 10 feedbacks, none of them recent. The last one for buying was in July of '06.

Out of the 10 feedbacks, he has one negative for being a non-paying bidder. His rating is 91% positive.

I really wasn't too concerned until I checked my auction today and found that he had changed his user ID...TODAY!!! This makes me nervous for some reason, especilly since the tickets are bid up to a nice price and I could definitely use the money for WDW.

His bids are all still there and the feedback is still there but the user ID has changed.

Why would he change his ID in the midst of an auction? It makes me wonder if he wasn't trying to hide his feedback, not realizing it would carry over to the new ID.

Should I be worried? Or am I overreacting? Would you cancel the bid or give it a chance?

Thanks in advance,

Mary

If you can, cancel his bid based on his actions of changing his id name.

I think it's fair, and you need to protect yourself.

Just let the buyer know that you are not comfortable selling the tickets to him based on his low number of feedbacks and his changing of id during your auction.

With only 7 hours left, I would just cancel the bid and take the loss on your posting fees with ebay or try to get refund on fees.

good luck

I definitely see where you're coming from. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. This person has successfully completed 9 auctions. I think I'd let it go. If that person wins the auction and doesn't come through, you can always send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder. And if that doesn't work out, get your fees back and list the tickets again. I think I'd rather do that than risk a loss.

If he really is a non-paying bidder you can re-list your tickets and get your listing fees back or do a second-chance offer. What are your terms of sale?

I would cancel that person's bid as well and add them to the blocked bidder list. However, there's no saying that he wouldn't change his ID again (if you can do that again after just having changed it) and you'd have to keep checking on your auction all the time to make sure he hasn't bid again. I would keep an eye on the auction from the last 20 minutes to the end, cancel all bids from him with about 2-3 minutes to go in the auction so he wouldn't have time to bid again. Good luck!

Okay, I cancelled and blocked him. That nagging little voice inside was just getting louder. The next highest bidder was only $5.00 lower and has excellent feedback. $5.00 is worth peace of mind. Thank you all for responding.

Well, I see that you already did it, but I can possibly offer an explination to the name change. I had my Ebay account hacked about a month ago, it was a PITA! Luckily, Ebay caught it immediately, cancelled the auctions that were placed (they were for "adult entertainment"), and then changed all my passwords and my Ebay ID name. I believe I was in the middle of bidding on something too. However, I emailed the seller to let them know what had happened.

I see that you already cancelled his bid, but it's possible that he's totally legit too. GL!
