Ebates 101!!

So really I had not heard of ebates until the post about orbitz and 20% off tickets.

I did go to the website and sign up but couple of questions.

Do I have to shop online via the ebates site to get any deals?
Also when I registered it ask me to pick a gift card, do I only get the refund via gift cards?

So basically how does it work?

The gift card is separate and a new customer bonus. You need to shop via ebates to get any cash back. Cash is paid quarterly via check or paypal.

You have to visit the ebates site first. Then type in any store that you want to shop at. The Ebates site will take you to the stores homepage and you shop and pay as you usually would. You must get to the stores's homepage via the Ebates site first otherwise you do not receive the cash back.

Just for signing up you receive a gift card. They will mail this to you. Your cash back will come in the form of a check (mailed to your home quarterly) or it will be deposited into your Paypal account- it's your choice.

Just to add to what others have said:

1. It's very important not to have items in your shopping cart on the vendors website prior to using ebates. You will not get credit for those items if you do.
   
2. Do not use a coupon code that is not listed on ebates for the merchant. It can void your rebate.
   
3. Save your confirmation emails from the merchant just in case you need to open a problem ticket with ebates. They will want you to copy/paste the contents into their communication.
   
4. Ebates pays out quarterly, but you must have at least $5.01 in your account in order for them to pay you. If you do not, the amount rolls over into the following quarter.
   
5. The current quarter runs from Jan. 01 - Mar. 31, 2014 but the payment (either by check or PayPal) will go out on May 15th. Any purchases that CREDIT during that time period will be included. If you make a purchase that credits after Mar. 31, it will be on the next check/deposit and that won't be until Aug. 15th.

I use ebates and would just like to add a few things. I have on my tool bar in the right hand corner the letter E for Ebates. It alerts me when a site I am visiting offers ebates cash back so I don't have to go through their site. It's a very helpful reminder and many sites will come up with a banner that tells you what the cash back percent is. I also use discover card when the percent is higher than ebates. You can only use one. It's easy to use and this quarter has been a good one. Just for clicking on the E I am getting a check for over $50 soon.

Anyone use both my points and ebates?

I do both. Mypoints is offering 2 points per dollar spent on Orbitz activities. It isn't as good a deal as the Ebates offer.
