Eating Our Way Through WDW (photos!)--Bring an Extra Fork! (Completed 2.5.11)

Great update, Tina!

Sorry about breakfast - I am not a huge fan of WDW muffins myself, well, cupcakes are another story! ;) :lmao:

Your dip at the Captains Grill brought back fond memories! :thumbsup2 Tom and I shared it and I remember it was more than enough to share.
Your dad's burger looks yum.

I am so happy you are doing this review!

Mmm Captain's Grill looks really good, I hadn't considered it before but it looks like a great spot to get away from the crowds :goodvibes

Loving the reviews so far! I appreciate your honesty!! Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

This was our second lunch ADR here. We have been really happy with it. Wonder how long they'll keep it open for lunch because it is always SO empty. It is a yummy place!

Thanks for sharing the pics and the reviews!
You're welcome! Thanks for reading!

Hope it doesn't sound to negative. Trying REALLY hard to be measured because, let's be honest, WDW is THE BEST place in the world  and I sometimes think it all is "great."

Great reviews. Your Dad is adorable!!!
Isn't he? I luv him!

Lovin all the pictures :thumbsup2
Yeah, I took over 960 pics in 8 days. Pretty pathetic, except when I am ready to do a trip report or a digital scrapbook. THEN I'm the hero! LOL!

I should have time to work on this again tonight!

Loving your reviews. Everything looks so yummy. Especially the philly steak sandwich and the caramel marshmallow rolls. Oh, I shouldn't be looking at this while I'm hungry. ;) Think I will have to get one of those caramel things while we are there in March.

Keep up the great job!

Patisserie
We blew through a few snack credits ($17.42 value) at the Patisserie as a late breakfast (we had a late lunch planned at Rose & Crown). We had our "usual"--a strawberry tart, an apple tart, a cheese & ham croissant, and a few drinks. Everything was good, but I wonder if they had just taken the pastries out of the freezer. They tasted a little frozen still. The croissant was EXCELLENT. Mom still talks about how great that was and she's not a ham person. There's a creamy gruyere cheese on there, but I swear there is a bechamel on there too. So yummy. I forgot to take pics, but I do have a few shots of the store "window."

Rose and Crown

My DH and I went to R&C when we were on our honeymoon WAAY back in '91. We try to go back just about every trip, more out of nostalgia than a huge draw for the food. However, no matter how 50/50 the reviews seem to be for R&C, we have ALWAYS had a great meal. This one was no exception. Another excellent server; another excellent meal; another REALLY long line to check in. Seriously, what's up with that? There's always a long line to check in here. Don't know why. People were trying to cut in line b/c they had ADRs and then people near the front would say, "Hey, we have ADRs too. It's the line for both." No blood was shed.

We were seated on the patio, which sounds really, really bad in the FREEZING weather, but they had the screens (plastic tarps) down and the heaters on. It was very pleasant, actually. It was warmer on the patio than it was in the restaurant. It was an icebox in there! I was happy to be outside.

Dad had been waiting for his fish and chips. Yes, I know, he could've gone to the Yorkshire Fish Shop for a lot less, but nonetheless, he ordered fish. He LOVED it. It was a huge portion. The fish arrived hot, crispy on the outside, and flaky and milk on the inside. Chips were very good too.

I had what I had been dreaming of--a bowl of potato leek soup. It came with two big hard rolls which were very good. The soup was great except it was incredibly salty. It worked out ok, though, because the rolls weren't salty. I just dipped to my heart's content. I was happy and I'd definitely do this again.

Mom surprised us all and ordered the steak with roasted veggies and mash. The veggies were INCREDIBLE!!!! They were like a chiffonade of brussels sprouts of all things (along with other veggies). It was SOOOO good (I ate some). The mashed were good too. The steak had a melted stilton on top. This dish had a LOT of flavor. I would DEFINITELY get this again.

I ordered tea. A LOT of tea. I LOVE tea.

Mom and Dad goofing off--

They sang to my dad and brought him a birthday card which had been signed by the staff. I think this was his best "birthday" celebration at a TS.

Dad and Mom both ordered lemon tarts to go, so I don't have a pic. They ate it later for a dessert while I ran around the parks. It was a shortbread crust with lemon curd inside and meringue on top. Dad said it was one of his favorite desserts. Mom said it was very, very tart and the shortbread was delish. I was going to make it for him for his b-day (Jan 12), but I was scared by the recipe. YIKES! Something like a pound of butter, almost a dozen eggs, etc. Whoa. Maybe sometime this summer I'll try to make it.

Lemon Tart $5.49 x 2
Steak $23.99
Hot Tea 2.39
Coffee 2.39
Fish & Chips 15.99
Bowl of soup $5.49 (a real bargain for the size w/the rolls!)
Tea 2.39

I went to MK for a while that evening, so I stopped by Pecos Bills to pick up a quick taco salad. You GOTTA love that fixins bar! It was really, really good. I'd get this again in a heartbeat (although I do like the BBQ bacon burger with the onion rings....)

The salad and a coke cost me $10.53. Not bad!

More pics soon!

YUM! Great reviews so far. I love that taco salad at Peco's Bills. That is my favorite CS in MK.

You have some amazing photos! Great review and commentary. I've considered Rose and Crown since I want to try something new at Epcot - glad you shared your review!

Joining in, We too had bad food at Coral Reef and bad service. My husband refuses to ever give it a second chance.

The Last time (and it will be the last) we ate here -(we tried it twice to overrule the first bad experience we had) I had to talk to the manager about being way overcharged. To the manager's credit he resolved the situation on the bill, however it left a bad taste in our mouth. (cliche meant) Further, the food was not that good. Kids were on the dinning plan, and one of the many missteps was serving carrots for a 'SIDE' that were meant to dip in dressing. They were completely rotten and rock hard. I wont even get into our food.

I don't know why they can't get this place right. THAT and my husband has an issue with eating in very dark restaurants...something about wanting to SEE what he is eating. We wont be returning either.
