Find a comfort food that is safe! For me that is Atkins Cookies&Cream Bar or sugar free jello! I have plenty of days where I just want to eat the chocolate tallcake AND strawberry cheesecake where I work, but then I remember how far I've come. I'm 20 pounds down and people are really starting to notice now. I had 4 people at an old job of mine comment on my weight loss, and that's what keeps me from going back to the sugar. I did have a small serving of peach cobbler at a friend's house Monday night and my body was like, "OH YEAH????" It's wild, because it was good, but since I haven't had sugar in so long it's weird when it gets in my system again.

So find the "safe" comfort food, it's out there, but you have to be careful with that too. Atkins bars can stall or even halt your weight loss if you eat too many of them. I drink a lot more water now and I really believe that is helping. You're gonna be just fine. Just remember one thing, no matter how bad it seems just keep telling yourself, it can only get better! :o :p

Best to you,

Denise

I find the best thing for stress is (you'll pardon the expression) EXERCISE. Go for a walk (if you've got a dog, take it along, that will make you both happier), go work in the yard, go to the gym, put in a tape....move your body. Besides helping to work out muscle tension it elevates endorphins, you'll feel better.

(Note to self: remember to take your own advice!)

No matter what eating plan... eating for emotional reasons will just be a non-stop event for me. So my first strategy is not to eat for comfort. All overeating gives me is "discomfort".

Having said that ... there are days where I am the living vacuum. If I must eat - then I make myself choose the legal options and not "treat" food (i.e. no sweets and no fake foods). Instead, I will make up a bunch of deviled eggs or having an omelette or a big HUGE salad with diced meat and cheese and canned artichoke hearts and several tablespoons of good full fat ranch or blue cheese dressing. I almost NEVER gain from eating too much when I make those food choices. I might stall but not gain or go off plan.

Just some ideas.

thanks gang.........those are all great suggestions. I have plenty to think about now to get my mind off the "comfort food". tee hee. It will be hard today since it's my birthday and I know my parents bought a cake even though I'm on Atkins. We'll see I guess. Thanks again..........xoxoxoxoxo

ohhhhhhhhh......birthday.......ohhhhhh

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I have this theory that you should have a piece of your own birthday cake....provided you LOVE cake, and the cake you have is the very best quality of your favorite kind. (Mine is the chocolate cake made from the Hershey cocoa receipe).
But only one piece and only on YOUR birthday, not on EVERYONE's birthday ....LOL

(How's that for a chocolate cake lover's rationalization?)

Happy Birthday!!!!!:p
If you need an Atkins comfort food, I found Atkins makes ice cream. Only four carbs per serving. The only place I have found it is the website and at my local BJ's Wholesale club. I like it. It comes in chocolate and vanilla. It makes watching my ds, 2 1/2, eat chocolate pudding easier.:) Good luck with your cake!
