Eating off site

We will be staying at pop but relying on disney transport. How easy is it to eat off site if we haven't got a car and will need to use lynx. What time do they stop running

I know this isn't going to be very helpful to you but, if I were staying at WDW without a car, I probably wouldn't eat offsite. To me, it is not worth the time and effort to get Lynx buses just to go and get something to eat in the evening. There are plenty of reasonably-priced options at Disney, particularly DTD. The only offsite place I might consider would be Crossroads, which is walkable from DTD (there are some other places, such as Chilis, not too far away but still a fair trek) but, in my opinion, there isn't enough there for a fortnight's holiday (unless you're happy to eat at the same places again and again).

If you really want to eat offsite, the Lynx Bus 56, I believe, will be the most useful to you. This runs along the 192 and leaves from the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). The last bus back from the 192 leaves at 10:47pm. As the buses from your resort will not drop you at the TTC, you will need to get a bus to the MK and walk from there. The trouble you might have is with getting a bus back from the TTC once the Magic Kingdom is closed. I am not familiar enough with the transportation from TTC after MK closes to know whether resort buses continue to run and until what time.

Is it you can't drive or don't want to? Car rental cost from about £75-85/week, would easily be saved by eating offsite.

I don't have a clue about transport as I would only goto Florida with a car, we don't use buses or taxi's. If you can get to Croassroads/LBV area then there are many places to eat, I disagree with Joh there as you could easily do a different place every night for 14 nights. Olive garden, Black Angus, TGI Fridays, Orlando Alehouse, Sweet Tomato, chilis, Uno, Hooters, Bahama Breeze, Golden Corral, CiCi's pizza, many more.
I couldn't pay onsite prices to eat for a whole trip, a few days ago we ate at the Plaza restaurant(MK), a basic burger each and shared a dessert, cost us just as much as steak/chicken meals offsite.

We stay onsite without a car and are happy to just eat on site.

We only have maybe 6 or 7 TS meals over the 2 weeks as we get a garden grocer delivery in and are happy with counter service as they have a great variety. Most days we'll have cereal in the room, a sandwich in the room for either lunch or dinner. And then grab a something at a park. DH loves ice cream so much that he's just as happy to get a HUUUGE ice cream and count that as a meal. Lol. Or one of the cakes from starring rolls etc.

We only eat out at restaurants maybe once a month at home. So even every other day can seem a bit much on holiday. It's more that we love the WDW restaurants so much that we don't want to miss them than we want a sit down meal.

If you want to eat a TS everyday then maybe car hire or looking into buses is a good plan, but we personally couldn't.

As noted above, Crossroads is a short-ish walk from the Marketplace Bus Station at Downtown Disney, or you could get Disney transport to the Trnsport and Ticket Centre at MK or to DTD, then catch the Lynx 50 to the top of Hotel Plaza Boulevard to get to Crossroads.

There are also further restaurants a short walk away from Crossroads - Bahama Breeze is almost on the site, and there is a Sizzlers, iHop and quite a few others just across from the junction of Palm Parkway.

May be worth pricing up the cost of a cab from your resort to Crossroads to save yourself time.

another person here that doesn't feel the need for a car and its got nothing to do with the cost or the driving in the USA! I actually enjoy catching the lynx bus, call me strange, but I do!!! Infact I love catching all the transport options. The 56 bus is great to get and its quick. If you catch the last one back to the TTC you can always hop on the monorail to MK and catch your bus back, but you will need to plan when you do this as the monorail has reduced hours so you'll need to do it when it has emh at the park! The other option is just to walk to the POLY and catch a bus from there to DTD then to your resort. The 50 lynx is the best because as others have said you can go to the Crossroads and eat there.
We generally walk to the crossroads from DTD when we fancy eating off resort but other then that we always eat on resort as usually have free dining.

Obviously if you don't plan on eating really late then there is no worry but you could always catch a cab back.

it's a very long walk from DTD to crossroads in july.

probably not as far in november, but still pretty darn far...

Thats funny because thats exactly what I was gonna say...It took us ages in September in the humidity! But we don't find it too far in November.

We'll be staying onsite next May with the DDP and no car, but for old time's sake, we HAVE to go to the Ale House on Crossroads for a Mountain Melt!

How long is the actual walk from DTD? Is it complicated? Is it safe at night (we're a group of four twenty something girls)? We were thinking of walking there and getting a cab back to OKW as we'll more than likely be a bit tiddly!

Well I suppose it took us about 1/2 an hour in November time and its very straight forward, you just follow the sidewalk all the way to the end of the road, cross at the crossing and you are there. We felt safe walking back at night but as you will be catching a cab being a bit tiddly you'll have no problems. Personally if its a bit on the hot side I would just jump on the 50 lynx at DTD as its only $2 and it'll drop you outside. When we walked in September we looked dreadful by the time we got there in the humidity!!

Thanks Vanda! 1/2 an hour walk is not bad at all, but like you say, if it's hot and humid then I'd rather not! Will be doing enough sweaty walking around the parks!! (too much information?!? )

We'll defo catch the Lynx!

I've also been figuring ways to get to the nearest Applebee's too (again for old time's sake) - again I think it's either the 50 or 56 that comes up trumps! Gotta love the Lynx!
