I'm planning my ADRs for our September trip. We're there for 2 weeks and I'm thinking that we might not want to eat on-property every night and wondering what the other options are.

We're stayin at the Dolphin, does anyone know what's in the area (or fairly easy to get to) if you don't want to eat on property?

We aren't using a hire car but don't mind using a taxi once or twice :)

Also, does the ADR thing apply to restaurants around Universal or is there a separate booking system for those?

I'll be done with this in about 3 weeks, so the stupid questions (well, at least the food related ones!) will stop then!

Sweet Tomatoes and Steak 'n' Shake are two good ones and they are just down the road from Downtown Disney so not too far in a taxi from the Dolphin.

The Universal restaurants have to be booked separate from your Disney ADRs. I don't think they have a similar system, I think you would just book direct with the restaurant.

My favorite is Perkins, it's just outside DTD at Crossroads. They've got the best omelette I've ever had :goodvibes They're open 24h though, so they serve a lot of different stuff. There's also a TGI Fridays at Crossroads as well. And one of my other favorite places is Chipotle, which is a Taco place which is ten times better than Taco bell. Not sure if there's anyone near Disney though, but there is one close to Florida Mall.

There are numerous places just outside Disney around the Crossroads area.
Our fave is probably Orlando AleHouse, especially good if you like a drink, they always have specials on.
Others around there off top of my head: Unos, Chevys Mexican Grill, Fuddruckers, Black Angus Steakhouse, CiCi's Pizza, TGI Fridays, Johnnies Hideaway, Flippers Pizzeria, Buffalo Wild Wings, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Perkins, Quiznos, Red Lobster, Chinese buffet, Denny's, Olive Garden, Hooters, Chili's, Romanos, Joes crab shack.

Have a look here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=cro...SA&view=map&cid=10359193157910378150&t=m&z=17
You exit Disney by Hotel Plaza Blvd.

We've never found any 'really good' indians in the US, but then we're spoiled being so close to Bradford!!!!!

We are close to Birmingham so LOTS and LOTS...

And as for Pakeezah for take away....might have to have a drive over there tomorrow!!!!!

You may want to use the cab ride to combine with a shopping trip to Mall @ Millenia.
There is a lovely eating place here - The Cheescake Factory :goodvibes

Will everyone STOP talking about curries and the close availability of them as I live in rural south west France and they are not just rare here but extinct :rotfl2: I am now salivating!! Rant over, you may now carry on the discussion of food in Florida!! :thumbsup2

My Brother is only in Chiswick, London but enjoys coming home for Fish & chips & curries, he reckons neither can be made properly outside Yorkshire.:rotfl:

my favorite off property restaurant is Sweet Tomatoes (YUM!!)

i also like Olive Garden.

A bit further away - in Celebration - i really like the Celebration Town Tavern.

But really, #1 with me is sweet tomatoes. We usually eat there at least 3 times when we're in orlando.

How far are these places from Downtown Disney? Like for people who aren't driving and don't want to rely on taxi's for everything, are these restaurants near to walk to. Maybe get a taxi home from them, but the walk is always nice.

From DTD to the Crossroads area is approx 1 mile, some of the restaurants a little further. I would think you can walk it in about 20-30 mins but not something I would do myself in the summer heat. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr...oq=Downtown+Disney+Area&gl=uk&mra=ls&t=m&z=16
