we are staying on site (SSR) for the first time next year so eating near the crossroads is new to us. when you go out from DTD to the lights if you turn left on the main (535) heading away from going under the I4 is there loads of restaurants . I like the crossroads but any time we have visited it has been awful busy

:wave2: Hi Ali, this area is well served with eateries of all kinds.

At Crossroads itself there are family diners such as Denny's, Perkins, TGI Friday plus Olive Garden, Red Lobster and more upscale, Pebbles as well as Burger King and McDonalds. It can get very busy - Easter springs to mind and I expect Christmas is similar, but at most other times I've found it okay.

Turning left at the lights on to Apopka Vineland are some more good choices including Chilis, Macaroni Grill, Orlando Ale House, Sizzler, Steak n' Shake, Tony Roma's and Ihop. If you go right at the lights (and under I4) you have more choices such as Bahama Breeze and Bennigans.

I'm sure I've missed out some favourites but there's plenty of choice around there. Lovely to plan on a snowy winter's night isn't it? ;)

When we stay at SSR we walk to Crossroads and get a cab back. We like Jungle Jims and the drinks are very reasonable.

There is also a new Buffalo Wild Wings grill and sports bar in the Goodings plaza, which is quite popular, while the Uno Pizzeria and Grill remains a good standard offering. If you like Chinese, the Dragon Court Buffet on the corner of the big junction when you turn left (the Apopka-Vineland and Winter Garden-Vineland Rd crossroads) is well worth trying for a great value buffet (it's just behind the IHOP, next to an empty Reebok store), while Joe's Crab Shack is excellent family fare. We rate the Macaroni Grill very highly, but you often need to book in advance (407-239-6676), because, as already mentioned, this area does get VERY busy much of the time. Check out their website Here!. PS: if you need a zip code to look up their Orlando locations, try 32836.

you can always go to Hooters....just take a left at those lights and an immediate right, then into that big (kind of strange deserted) strip mall....

never been in the place myself, but we're always tempted just for a laugh....

there are some other very odd eating places in that mall if you're weirdly adventurous.....

if you turn right at crossroads thee is more than resturants there is wallmart, suppertarget it also takes you to 192 about 2miles down road and not far from crossroads is one of the best resturants in our opinion The outback. It is near dixi stampede

I really like the Crossroads area and agree the choice of restaurants is excellent here.

Ali, I must admit I only ever found it busy at Christmas time (and everywhere was nightmare busy LOL)

Moira - where is the Olive Garden? I am prone to be the most unobservant person in the world, LOL but I never saw this. Any directions you give need to be very simpla as it took us 3 tries to find Bahama Breeze which is possibly the most easy restaurant in the world to locate :teeth:

Olive Garden is right next to Race Rock which you can't miss as there is a monster truck parked right outside :)

Thanks Traycie!

Is this near to Crossroads then? I am really confused but my geography is awful to be honest! I would have gone to Race Rock via the I4 - is there a better way?

Sorry for taking your thread OT Ali!

if memory serves, you turn left at the intersection coming out of WDW (straight would take you into the Crossroads) and the Olive Garden is right there on your right.

I love the Olive Garden. A bottomless salad and 5 cheese angel hair pasta - my idea of heaven....

If you want to eat in a very good (but expensive) restaurant in that area, try the Black Swan in the Villas of Grand Cypress. We ate there a few years back (when we stayed at the villas), but I assume the food is as good as it was then.
It's located in the golf club there. I know that in the past it's received the 4 diamond rating. that's probably still true.

You turn left at the intersection leaving WDW (straight would take you into crossroads). I think it's the next light where you make another left (the intersection with the 7-11).
After turning left, you'll see the Hyatt Grand Cypress on your left, but you don't turn there. You continue down the road a bit more and the Villas of Grand Cypress will be on your right. Turn in there. Tell the guard that you have a reservation at the Black Swan (which you'll need to eat there).

There's actually a faster way to get there from inside WDW. One of those "secret" unmarked entrances to WDW is almost directly across from the entrace to the Villas. But it's probably easier to go on the main roads the first time.

There are two Olive Gardens mentioned in the course of this thread - the one at Lake Buena Vista is on Apopka-Vineland Rd, just on the right as you approach the busy crossroads with Winter Garden-Vineland Rd (535). This one is the 'old' style and is quite difficult to see as the exterior decor is fairly nondescript. The one on I-Drive is where King Henry's Feast dinner show used to be, and is right next to the big Race Rock restaurant. This Olive Garden is the newer design, with a more rustic, elaborate facade, and is also much bigger. The food, however, is the same (and is usually great value)!!

thanks everyone

we only ever ate at the crosscroads twice a couple of years ago once was TGI's and the wait was so long and the other time I think it was Perkins and again the service was really long so I was a bit worried about where we were going to eat (stayed offsite at a villa this year and felt it was so far away with no restautants nearby) so for next year we didn't want to venture to far away and the crossroad isn't that far away. even though we have been to DTD area (not to stay though) many times we have never ventured past the juntion where you turn left at the crossroad to enter into DTD so was unsure what if anything was further on.

I had that book to until the family who hated disney borrowed it! :( won't even try and ask for it back will buy the next edition ;)

simon is the 2006 edition out yet ?

We went in Hooters this year, the food was ok. The girls aren't really dressed that skimpily, it'd only really be inappropriate if you were in the middle of the Bible Belt! They just dress like cheerleaders!

I am not Simon (obviously ;) ) but there is a big thread on this page about the 2006 edition and yes, it is out! I have a copy myself and it is an excellent read.
