Dear all,

My wife and i have lost several pounds and don't want to put this all back on when we see Mickey in April/May. She had a Gall bladder whipped out some months ago and has to eat a good diet.

Where do you recommend?

Cheers.

My daughter was on WW and also had her gall bladder removed....so she was not that excited about fast food counters......at Disney she was able to maintain her weight (actually lost a few) because of the walking and not nibbling like we would if we were at home.
I am going to say if you wanted to eat at some of the buffets....you can judge what you want to eat and how much......stay away from the fried stuff......The hamburgers at the resorts and some of the parks are flame cooked on an open grill and I found them not to be greasy at all.....very good in fact.
Crystal Palace at MK has a great buffet and alot of choices. meat, fish and great side dishes.
Cosmic Rays at MK also has great salads (if your system can tolerate the ruffage) and soups too.

Thanks,

I do have some plan to try and find the grilled places rather than the fried but it's access to these and where we are at the time that will affect choice. in the evening i know there are many quality eating places but even these tend to use a lot of fat. I suppose we'll have to try grill houses as a rule.

remember to talk to your server at the restaurants and she in turn can talk to the chefs and see what they would recommend.......usually the restaurants are very accomodating........good luck and have a great visit to the Mouse

Congratulations on your weight loss and effort to keep it off :thumbsup2 Here's what we do with 2 active sporty teens and DH and I who like to stay fit (and it's not difficult at all!) 1. Share portions--regardless what people say about the price, WDW gives VERY generous portions. Don't double order any course. ask about substitutions--many will give you veggies such as carrots instead of fries. 2. Don't drink any calories (duh) water, ice tea, simple cocktails or wine 3. exercise--I swim laps at the resort in the mornings and walk stairs for 20 minutes in addition to all the walking at WDW 4. if you crave a rice krispie treat or cookie, purchase it and take it back to your resort to enjoy in the morning rather than at 10pm at night.5. personally we avoid any buffet except Biergarten. ordering off menus is better for portion control and you can ask them to put anything "on the side". 6. most of the counters in any of the parks that serve burgers and chicken breasts also have a topping bar so it's easy to control what you put on them. Our family finds WDW to be very good with their effort to give nutritional options. 7. don't eat after your normal set time at night. for me it's 7pm--we don't do main evening meals say at 9pm at home and we don't do that on vacations. 8. we eat our breakfast at the resort and keep it simple (fruit, cereal, etc.) we don't pile on the calories first meal of the day because I think that puts you behind for the rest of the day. If you're doing good habits, you'll be fine. ENJOY! we'll be back in the World in June popcorn:: :surfweb: :cool2: princess:

I don't know what kind of diet you and your wife and following now but it's fairly easy to continue while you are at Disney World. Most of the chicken dishes are grilled and not fried (I know because the only chicken I like is fried). There are salads available throughout the parks. Fruit is also available at every park (grapes make for an excellent energy boost for me).

At counter service places, remember that you can order any item ala carte. So if you don't want the fries, just order the sandwich. You can also order a kids meal with a smaller portion (the Flame Tree BBQ has a good kids chicken wing meal). Also there are many counter service places that have fixings bar where you can make a small salad on your own (with the purchase of a meal, of course).

For table service, remember that you can substitute your side dishes (ask for rice instead of mashed potatoes for example). You can also ask for your meat "naked" so the sauces and gravies and glazes are left off (my husband does this all the time).

Take snacks with you to the parks to keep you happy during the day.

Thank you for the above advice. We're going to try and maintain a lowish fat, calorie controlled diet. It's possible i'm sure given what you're saying. We hate the idea of enjoying the holiday and then getting back home to the depression of the scales in the bathroom. Don't get me wrong, holidays should be fun and a little carefree but we've found food in Orlando to be of lower standard than London and Paris. It's not an unfair comparison when one considers the eating population. We tend to like grilled meat or fish made simply as in Greece and salad etc on the side. Not all the time but as a healthy diet goes. We've been to V&A all the way down to Fast food and the memory tends to be of over complicated dishes rather than a focus on simple fresh ingredients cooked well.

Off course, we're open to suggestions for this next visit if people know of good restaurants.

Garden Grill has fresh veggies ... just dont eat the fried catfish haha

Most nicer places offer salmon which is REALLY good for dieters as its high in protein. Just ask for any sauce to be placed on the side

I am against buffets for weight loss... completely against them. Most buffets are full of starches to fill up guest on the "cheaper" foods.
Also, you tend to eat a lot more at a buffet.

There is nothing wrong with ordering steak for lunch or an early dinner. Just don't get the french fries or tators with it :rotfl: steak has tons of protein and your body will need the extra protein for all of the walking. Make sure to cut the fatty stuff out before eating it though....

No matter where you eat here are some basic guidelines about losing weight and meals:

1. eat slowly... chew your food like 10 times before swallowing. The slower you eat the better chance your brain connects with your gut telling you your full.

2. If you plan on snacking between meals, snack ONLY on fruits and veggies.

3. Don't skip meals! This sets you up to smelling the fudge over on main street and wandering your behind over in that direction..... even though I don't have the exact numbers in front of me.. I am sure a 1/4 pound of that PB fudge has more calories than a full bacon and eggs breakfast :rotfl:

4. Do not drink while eating. This is one of the hardest to get used to but its one of the best tips! You can drink while waiting for your meal if you must but once you start eating, try to drink as little as possible. Liquid washes food through your tummy faster! The less you drink, the longer you will stay full and the less chance of getting the munchies.

5. Stay far far away from high sugar drinks and food. This puts your blood sugar on a roller coaster and you will be hungry much faster.
