Lillian remembered that Walt “didn’t like sweets very much. Sometimes he could be annoyed by something he was served. He didn’t like cake. One time Thelma made a whipped cream cake and Walt was complaining about it. I got so put out that I picked up a piece of the whipped cream and threw it at him. It hit him right in the face. And he picked up some whipped cream and threw it at me. Then we started throwing it back and forth at each other….I remember that I got some whipped cream on the wallpaper and it left a grease mark and I had to change it.”

Interesting article. Thanks for posting it!!

I'd say that the Signatures would be out for Walt if he were able to dine at WDW today--
So I wonder just which restaurant(s) he'd like????

You're very welcome.

He probably wouldn't like the dining plans very much, all those desserts!

I'd be willing to bet there is a lot Walt would not like about WDW today.

I don't know, I kind of respectfully disagree..... I think the core of what Disney is all about is still there.... and that's seeing the face of a child the first time they pass through the gates and see Cinderella's Castle. Or the first time they meet their favorite character in "real life". Or the first time they eat a Mickey ice cream bar..... :lovestruc Magic.

We sometimes look at things with the skepticism of an adult. When we took our DD (who was 4 1/2) last Sept for the first time, I truly got a lesson in the beauty of a child's mind. I absolutely loved seeing my daughter's face each and every step of the way as she discovered what this great man created. To me, that's what Walt stood for. There might be things "he wouldn't like" but you know, the world is filled with things that have changed, and not necessarily for the better.

But the one thing that Disney World is based on remains the same. “To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” I think if you look at any kid, you'll see the wonder. And most adults have that silly Goofy look on their face that brings them right back to being a kid.

Thanks Mr. Disney.....

Very valid points. In that respect, the magic is still there. In more recent years some changes and additions have been made that may not fit the original concept, a point Roy Disney used to bring up on a regular basis until they shoved him aside. Who knows, though. Perhaps the forward-thinking Walt Disney might approve, but many of us don't buy into that. Still, for kids on their first time it's very magical.

I watched a TV documentary on Walt last night and they mentioned that Walt did not care for gourmet food at all. He like simple food and his favorite was chili and beans.

I'm very much like Walt in that I don't care for sweets and cake at meals. It's one of the things that burns me about the Dining Plan. Why can't I order an appetizer instead of a desert, especially if they are the same price?

I kind of don't get this either. It seems to me that it would be a good thing to give a "one or the other" option. What if you're a diabetic ? Or on Weight Watchers? You don't always want dessert, but sometimes a light salad for an app would be good. :thumbsup2

The only thing I can figure is it would mess up "table rotation". If one person got an app but the other diner in the party got dessert, well now the dinner is taking longer than if both people skipped an app but both got dessert. :confused3 I don't pretend to understand the logic.

He actually used to travel with canned chilli and beans. He's opt to eat that in his nice hotel rooms he'd traveled to rather then eat at a fancy restaurant.

Glad George posted this. I too recall reading that Walt was fond of chili. I love chili, but can't say that in the heat & humidity of WDW it sounds particularly appealing.:earsboy:

This is exactly why - it's about turning tables quicker, so you understand more than you think.
