Eating in Universal Hotels

Staying onsite, stayed last year but ate mostly at Citywalk and in the parks , always got tables without any problem.
Do we need to make reservations for eating in the hotels , especially at the character interaction Breakfasts and dinners, or do we just show our room keys.

Hi reservations are best I've seen guests turned away when restaurants are busy
