Eating ideas in a Studio

I plan on making Toaster Streudel, Easy Mac, sandwiches, salads, and Ramen Noodles. Maybe some lean cuisines for myself. And micro popcorn for snacks.

I like the Rotisserie Chicken idea and may try that too!

This is a budget trip for us and keeping food costs down will allow us to stay longer so Im all for it!!

There should not be any cooking in the studios that involve something other than a micro-wave. But who cares-put 5 or 6 people in a studio and bring in those propane tanks! What next!

This will be our first time in a studio for more than a day so last week I began to panic as I do the cooking for my DF of five plus DM & DS who will be in another studio.Sorry to say I thought of the simple things like canned but I have created a clan of monsters who will not do soup or the chef boy route as a meal This is my ideas; I will have my single electric burner and an electric fry pan.
With those two items I figure we will be able to do BBQ (use the grill that's what they are there for!) Chicken (using the grill at HH as we have at BW) the mic for vegtables & rice a roni on the burner. Pancakes, Eggs , Omlets bacon & sausage. My family loves Breakfast for dinner. Stir fry boneless chicken is pretty easy with an electric burner & a small fry pan, mic rice and cook up vegtables. A ham has also worked out well as we can actually use it for three diffrent meals. Grilled cheese along with ham and then soup will pass or possilby BLT's.
Hope that helps a bit.

Tacos! We always cook the meat at home the day before we leave. We then take (or buy) the shredded cheese, sour cream etc. , which all keeps in the fridge. We use the soft shells and they heat up quickly (10 seconds in the microwave). My family loves tacos and it's a great way to save a few bucks for a dinner or two.

You could all try to rent one or two bedroom units that have full kitchens for cooking. This reminds me of the time WDW had to take the coffee makers out of the rooms because people were using them to cook in their rooms. Cooking of course in studios should not be allowed. It is no wonder the help over at BCV look down on the DVC customers. It is a good thing the laundry is free or else we would see clothes hanging off the porches.

I gotta admit, I am hoping alot of the posts are tounge in check......

I mean I don't think it's a good idea to being in a propane camp out cooker, or an electric burner and a fry pan.

Cooking should be limited to the utensils and appliances made available by Disney.

For us in a studio that means fruit, toasted bagel and cream cheese, cereals, juices, coffee, tea, pop tarts, toaster strudel, and maybe even an occasioanl bowl of easy Mac and Cheese, and of course Popcorn in the evenings. But thats really about it.

Im not suggesting that this should be the menu, but I am suggesting that you should not try to prepare anything that can't be prepared with the tools provided. If you've got to brng in something significant from outside in order to cook your meal, you prpbably shouldn't be in a studio. JMHO

I totally agree with you, Quadman. I just don't understand some people who have so little concern about the other guests that they will choose to create a risky situation by doing these things.

We usually take sandwich makings,
cereal,
milk,
bread,
bananas,
drinks and OJ and the such -
half of it comes back home with us - we love to each at Canada, even tho we say we aren't going to!!!!
some plans never seem to work out but the times are always WONDERFUL:teeth:

I can bend for the Goerge Foreman grill, since it is an electric plug-in appliance, but the propane grill is a little much.

How about a bunch of the frozen dinners? You'll have a fridge, keep them in there, and each night just take a couple out and microwave them.

There is a grill near the pool, so perhaps a barbeque one night. I like the rotisserie chicken idea, and then using the leftover grilled chicken to mix with a salad.

I agree with the folks who say if you can't pretty much make it with what they provide in a studio as far as utensils/appliances go, then you probably shoudln't be in a studio.

No need to bring an electric skillet to cook eggs. Scrambled eggs can be made in a cup in the microwave. DH wants eggs for breakfast when we're on vacation, so this is how I make him happy!:D

I also bring the foreman grill and we use it to cook breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, taco meat, small pork roast, steak, french toast, quesadillas, etc. you can do so much with it. I'll admit scrambled eggs can be a pain but are doable. I also bring my tupperware microcooker , but it is one or the other not both! With the micro cooker I can make a three course meal in about 20 minutes and it feeds four very well. With that I can brown ground beef, make meatballs for meatball sandwiches, cook breaded chicken, meatloaf, pasta, rice, sauce, cake and fruti crumble desserts.
My favorite meal though requires no cooking--bagged lettuce, and the already cooked diced chicken from the packaged deli dept tossed with ceasar dressing and your all set! Soft breadsticks or fresh Italian bread compliment it nicely.

Pam@OKW if I could have booked a two bedroom, one bedroom or GV for the whole time I would have but this was after the 7 month window that we decided to go.
Usually I am meticulous with my vacation planningand have a one bedroom at the 11 month window, so this is not our "normal" mode.

You can also make fantastic breakfast sandwiches. This last trip I bought croissants, a dozen eggs, cheese, and ham. I scrambled the eggs and cooked them in the microwave. Warmed up the ham, and then placed, egg ham and cheese all on the croissant. My DH and BIL loved it.

What, am I the only person on this board who can live for a week on the Hot Beef & Bean Burritos they sell in the resort stores? Cheapest meal you'll ever regret at WDW. :cool2:

You know calling cast members "the help" should also be looked down on.

What difference does it make to you what people do in their hotel rooms as long as they leave it in the condition it came in? A microwave will leave cooking smells in the studio.... and I am just assuming that the DVC resorts are built to contain fires to the room in which they start . Someone with a full sized stove can easily start a fire as someone in a studio.

Some people do not need the room and burn points on larger unit. If DVC did not want to encourage cooking/eating in the rooms then they would not have provided the Kitchenette at all.
