Hi Guys,

We're having a stay at SSR and would like (for once) to make use of the "kitchen" in the studio.

So what tasty "bung in the microwave" meals/foods can you fellow vacationers recommend and where do i get it from??

thanks in advance.

I don't call what is in the studios a "kitchen". You need a 1 bedroom or larger for that.

There are a variety of frozen entrees or microwavable containers of soup that you can get to build a meal around. Just add some salad and bread and you have a nice meal.

We generally stick with sandwiches when we stay in studios (and mostly pb/j) but sometimes we want a hot meal. Sometimes we "fancy up" our sandwiches by (gasp!) toasting the bread first :)

If you make a grocery store stop coming into the world, you should be able to pick up whatever you need.

Don't forget, there are grills by the "quiet" pools.

We usually cook out at least once when were at OKW.

If you are looking at a morning meal, get some eggs and micro them. Toast some bread, maybe add some cheese and have an egg sandwich with coffee or tea. Protein to keep you going for the morning. Everythinh can be bought right at the resort.

I've seen people say that SSR studios have toasters and I've even seen them in the pictures, but I'll be staying in an OKW studio - do I need to bring one?

Thanks.

When I think we'll need it, I bring my electric sandwich maker because my DSis loves grilled cheese sandwiches. Salads with precooked chicken, the grilled sandwiches with soup, and frozen ribs from home heated in the microwave, are about all we've "cooked" in studios. The most memorable, DSis thought she had everything well packed, but one plastic container of ribs cracked in the plane, and that cooler was a total mess! We usually do make fruit salad when we have a car to do some grocery shopping and even if we have to buy it at the resort, we do have cereal/bananas in the morning.
That with morning coffee on the balcony gives me a good start to my WDW days.

Microwave, toaster, coffee maker, mini fridge, plastic ware, paper plates, real glasses and cups and a starter pack of coffee and some polmolive liquid is what you'll have at OKW.

DH and I just returned from 5 nights at SSR. While we really liked the resort, cooking facilities in the studio are VERY limited. Yes, you do have the toaster, coffee maker, small fridge, and microwave, but what you do not have is space! The sink is tiny and there is just about enough space to put a glass and plate. We made coffee (brought from home, can't drink Disney hotel coffee-blech) and toast, bought fruit salad at Artist's Point, and we got milk and cereal also from Artist's Point. That was the extent of our "cooking" and believe me, that taxed the area. There's just no room for prep and cleaning. AT ALL. Just MHO.

But we really did like SSR a lot, in fact, much more than we anticipated.

I don't like to eat park food every day so if it is Studio accommodations and we have a car, we pick up a rotiserrie chicken from Publix or Winn Dixie, add a bag of frozen/steam microwave vegies. Get a bag of frozen meatballs, cook in the microwave and add Ragu and some rolls and you have meatball subs. If you want something more substantial, I like the already mashed potatoes and the Hormel Pot Roast, Heat & Serve, it feeds 4. Uncle Ben's already cooked rice pouches to heat in the microwave, they really are quite good and only take 5 minutes. Publix quiche warmed in the microwave with fruit or regular salad makes a great lunch or breakfast.

The possibilities are endless, and if you don't have car, you can even have your groceries delivered, at a cost of course. (gardengrocer.com)

It's easier if you have a 1 bedroom but I still don't want to be a slave to the stove either, I'm on vacation too! This Summer there will be 11 of us, and yes I'm bringing my crock pot!

Let us know after your trip how it went, have fun!

Would you want to share what you'll be making in the crock pot?

1st night -Olivia's, 2nd night-Crock pot, 2 Bags of frozen meatballs and sauce, add 2 pounds of spaghetti, 3 bags of salad and I hope to feed the whole clan! 3rd night- Le Celier, 4th night, Crock pot, Ground beef and taco seasonings for taco night, 5th night-Medieval Times, 6th night Papa John's Pizza & bagged salad , not my personal favorite but the kids love it.

Best of both worlds, home cooked food, easy and quick and a few outings to break it up.
