Eating a child's menu item?

With the costs of everything going through the roof, I am looking through menus for prices for my December trip. I am planning on doing mostly CS meals and I just had a thought. I wonder if I could order a child's menu item for myself here or there to save money. I am wondering if any adults have done this. What did you order? Was it enough food for a lunch or light dinner? Did you feel silly?

Please know that I am NOT on the dining plan and I certainly am not trying to buck the system.

TIA!

I think it's fine, just order what you want. A lot of the adult meals are so big, I can't eat it all, or even most of it. As far as feeling silly, the CM won't know who you're ordering the food for.

I don't see where there could be any problem with anyone ordering from the child's menu at CS locations. I've thought about doing the same thing myself.

Speaking as someone who nearly always orders a "happy meal" at McDonalds, I say, go for it! As someone else said, how will they know it's not for a kid if it's a CS restaurant??

They might have stricter rules at TS restaurants, though - it doesn't hurt to ask! I hate wasting food, and when you stay at a hotel, leftovers aren't an option sometimes, depending on what you order (how to heat something up?). So ordering a kid's meal makes perfect sense to me.

I agree! When on vaca in 2010, I doubt my fam will do a CS meal w-out one of us wanting something from the kids menu, and I dont just mean my little one who'll be 5. She'll probably want the basket of chicken strips (adult menu) if anythingpopcorn::

I agree wholeheartedly! I've never ordered off of the children's menu, but have often thought about it for the simple fact that the portions are much more manageable. Another option for saving money is to split adult portions if you can agree on your menu item choice. That's what we usually do; we can never finish an adult portion individually and I hate wasting food as well. I actually asked a CM what they do with all the wasted food at Disney (because I was in awe of the Rain Forest Cafe portions) and he told me that they make a meal/slop for some of their animals!

I have ordered kids meals at WDW plenty of times in the past, and they're usually about the right portion size for me. Then I'm not too stuffed to grab a Mickey Bar or another treat in the afternoon! I only ordered a kids meal at one TS place (Rose & Crown) back in 2003, but I don't think I'd do that again. I'd rather split an adult meal with DH anyways. At CS places, it is completely acceptable to get a kids meal. Think of how often one parent orders food while the other parent waits elsewhere with the kids. The CM doesn't know (and generally doesn't care) who the food is for. Maybe on the dining plan it's a different story, but we've never been on the plan.

Thanks everyone! Now I feel a little less weird about it. I'm happy to see that there are actually CS locations that have more than chicken strips/nuggets for kids so this might be a real option for me and my wallet.
