Hi there. Our first ever Disney trip is fast approaching (end of this month) and I just assumed we'd eat there or head out of park for a bite to eat (we are staying with family; not at a resort). Anyway ... it seems like more of a hassle to leave and come back. So, where's a nice spot for kids to meet characters and eat lunch at the MK??? Does anyone have experiences with these restaurants (inside the castle or the Tavern)? Not even sure now if we'd get reservations this late in the game. Thanks.

For lunch,in past we have had several great meals and good character interaction. You will need ti try and make reservation ASAP,if you don't get it on first try keep calling back and you may get lucky.:goodvibes :goodvibes Danny

In the MK:

TS:

Liberty Tree Tavern (Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto)
Crystal palace (Pooh Characters)

CS:
Pecos Bill's (Best fixin's bar IMHO)
Cosmic Ray's (Great value if you order the chicken and rib combo)
Casey's

Well lunch at LTT isn't a character lunch, just putting that out there.
However, the Character dinner at LTT is really awesome and I highly reccomend it.

You could try for Crystal Palace (buffet with Pooh characters:http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_cpl.htm) or Liberty Tree Tavern (don't think they have characters at lunch, just dinner: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_ltt.htm).

If you can't get either of those, try The Plaza or Tony's.

If all else fails, it's not a huge hassle to take the monorail to Contemporary, Poly, or Grand Floridian if you want to do that. You do have to go back out the gates with the security checks but not too bad, esp if your kids would enjoy the monorail.

I don't think there are characters at lunch at LTT. I am pretty sure only dinner is a character meal.

We love Crystal Palace for any meal. We go there at least once on every trip, usually more than once!

Yes,sorry the posters are correct we had good charadter interaction but it was at dinner.Maybe try CP I have seen many good reviews on it. :goodvibes Danny

Dinner only with characters at LTT and the characters are usually Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Chip and Dale. Great food and interactions.

Well, looks like everything is booked anyway. Can't get a reservation for lunch anywhere at MK for that day. So ... hopefully, there will be a McDonalds there! Our trip is very last minute and I had no idea we'd need to make reservations ... and there wouldn't be room for us two weeks ahead. If we ever make it back, I'll know how this stuff works.

Keep calling even on the very day! There are cancellations. Keep plugging away.

Have you tried for ADRs at Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary? You could take the monorail over. As soon as you get to the platform ask a CM if your family can ride up front with the driver. I think there is room for 5? someone help me with that. You may (or may not) get a certificate as a souvenir.

One option you might want to consider is the Plaza resteraunt. It is right at the end of main street on the corner as you would take a right to go to Tomorrowland. I think it is all walk-in (no reservations) and it almost has the feel of a sit-down place, at least to me. Good food, great location, no characters but you may seem some stroll by if you wait long enough.

There are plenty of CS places to eat at the MK if you can't get an ADR. There aren't any characters at them but the food is good:

Cosmic Rays
Pinocchio Village Haus
Casey's Corner
Columbia Harbour House
Pecos Bills

Good Luck!!!

Bucky is absolutely right - there are many great counter service (CS) options available inside MK.

But the others are also right that there are several excellent table service (TS) options at the monorail resorts, and at Wilderness Lodge and the Ft. Wilderness Campground, which are only a short boat ride from MK.

If you can't get an ADR at any of the in-park places, try for an ADR at Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary, or Kona Cafe in the Polynesian. They're fairly popular places, but I think you have a better shot at getting into them for lunch than for dinner, because the majority of folks are in the parks in the middle of the day.

Failing those, try for the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge. The lobby alone is worth the boat ride to WL, but WCC is a popular place.

And if al else fails, go to the Trails End Buffeteria at the Ft Wilderness Campground (the boat to WL also stops at FW - they are next to each other on Bay Lake). Trails End is the best-kept secret at WDW; it's a simple, down-home style buffet with excellent quality food, and is the cheapest buffet at WDW.

The boat ride to either WL or FW is a terrific, relaxing experience through beautiful scenery, too.
