Anyone here a fan of the novel, Eat, Pray, Love? I started reading it when it first came out, but stopped about halfway through. When I realized it was being made into a movie that will premiere in August, I picked it up again this weekend. Anyone else reading or rereading it in anticipation for the film? I'd love to chat about it in this thread. :thumbsup2

This one is in my pile of books to finish. I have gotten through Italy and India but for some reason I put it down.

I hope to pick it back up to finish.

I also stopped reading it halfway through! I never made it out of India. It wasn't bad, and certainly a quick read...life just gets in the way sometimes.

They filmed some of the movie on my block, so I'm a bit curious to see my neighborhood (and maybe even my building) on screen. I saw Julia once, but sadly no Javier. I live in Brooklyn Heights, and while this is an amazingly diverse block, I don't think it could pass for Italy, India, or Bali. I'm guessing this was her neighborhood before her trip?

Maybe I'll dig up my copy and see if I can pick up where I left off...

A friend of mine from church got it for our entire women's group because she enjoyed it so much. I finished it, and though I admit it wasn't a gripping page-turner, I enjoyed it. I plan on downloading her second book to my Kindle if I can before we leave for Disney (in 11 days!!!). I grew to care about her enough to want to see how she and Phillipe (sp? I can't even look it up, as I lent it to a friend) did after the book ended. I can definitely see why it spoke to my friend so much, as she was divorced and also trying to deal with the fact that her life wasn't turning out the way she'd planned. I will probably see the movie in DVD, as this is the only way I see anything now!

I'd like to pick this up when I saw the previews for it when seeing Sex in the City 2. I heard it was a great book and am anticipating reading it and seeing the movie later this summer.

I stopped reading after Italy. I was only in it for the "eat" part of the journey I guess.;)

I'll probably see the film though, because I like Julia Roberts.

I loved this book and was cautiously excited when I heard they were making a movie. When I'm a fan of a book, I'm a bit leery that they will ruin it in the movie. I am a fan of Julia Roberts though so maybe it won't be ruined.
I've loaned it out so many times I no longer know who has my copy. I may try to reread it and will participate in a discussion as time allows.

I absolutely LOVED that book. I've read and re-read it about 7 times in total. Sometimes I'll pick it up and read certain favorite parts, like when Liz goes to the football game in Italy, or any bits of wisdom from "Richard from Texas" at the ashram.

I'm not sure how to feel about the movie, though. I always inwardly cringe when I hear about one of my favorite books being made into a film because I'm afraid of what they will do to my beloved book. "The Other Boleyn Girl" springs to mind: loved the book, hated the film.

I'll definitely see the film when it comes out, but I'll be very disappointed if it turns out to be an epic fail.

I had just gotten out of a 10 year relationship (my only one during and since high school) when I was given this book. I think that it definitely spoke to me in ways that it wouldn't to other people. I am not scared for the movie because I think the essence will still be in it: that you can get through anything. I loved reading her honesty. It seriously got me through the worst time in my life so far. Now I want to go re read it!
