Eat my fav, THIS! But, Whatever you do, don't eat THAT!

I am not sure I am going to fit on any rides after all the eating I have planned for this trip, but I will try to squeeze onto things as best I can! I might have to get that croissant ALONG WITH my cinnamon roll and piece of cake AND blended mocha, and just have a big porkfest right in the middle of Main Street! Then I will quietly waddle back to the PPH and turn in for the night if all the sugar doesn't kill me first!

That is so funny - I don't think I will be able to fit all the eating in that I want to do!:rotfl:

EAT THIS: Ratatouille with corn cakes at Cafe Orleans.

NOT THIS: Fried chicken at the Plaza. Yeah, I know lots of people rave about this, but gah, when I had it...it was like eating SALT. I thought maybe I just got a bad batch, but someone in this thread also mentioned the chicken being too salty.

Whitewater Snacks is located at the Grand Californian btw, for the poster who asked.

Fortunately, when I went to DLR in October, I didn't end up eating ANY of the aforementioned stuff I thought I would have to scarf down!:cool1: I had scheduled meals for the duration of the DLR stay with PS's and that seemed to keep any snacking urges under control for me, because I knew that I had another meal scheduled at such and such time and so I wouldn't really have a good block of time to sit down with croissants and cinnamon rolls and all that good stuff. I think I tend to eat the treats more when I don't have scheduled meals, so now I know how to combat that! PS's all the way!!!

However....over on the "Merry Eats" thread, there is a comprehensive list of all the holiday treats to be had this year at DLR, and that is looking mighty tempting!;)

EAT THIS: Chicken strips with BBQ sauce at ESPN Zone (yum yum yum)
NOT THIS: Lemonade at ESPN Zone (okay, I know it is not eating, but still...)

My DD says Do eat: Napoli pizza in DTD from the snack bar side, and the long corndogs from the Red Truck by the photo shop in DL, Chimichanga split with my brother (and its fun to say over and over until my Mom says "STOP IT!") And the caramel corn from DCA
Don't eat: Turkey leg, sliced apples and tiny carrots in plastic bags. EEEEWYYY! Caramel corn in DTD

My DZach says "LOL eat EVRYTHNG xcpt the CC or the ICS on MNST"
He was sitting here reading all the entries and cracking up at the abbreviations and came up with this on his own. He's a teenager and He's a dork!

it means: Laugh out loud, eat everything except chimichanga or ice cream shop on Mainstreet

Thanks for the translation Marciern22. LOL

Eat This Pomme Frites at CO
Not This (this is so hard for me.....I don't know what to list.....LOL) ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm seriously....I don't know....LOL

I'm curious about why so many people often hate Tortilla Jo's. I've had no problems there, I've thought it was rather good, and more reasonably priced than a lot of places in the park (and in DTD). They were also incredibly accommodating for my brother who will not eat things that are mixed and always wants stuff plain. Even though there was nothing actually on the menu like that, they had no problem making up something just for him to his tastes. Not a whole lot of places will do that.

A first trip to DLR is a BIG reason to be excited!:cool1:  :yay: (Heck, I still get super excited when I go now, and I have been going to DLR off and on over a few decades!) I am always really happy for people who get to go to DLR for the first time because it so magical and there is nothing like that wondrous, 'first-time' feeling of being there! How great for you! How long are you going to be at DLR? Are you staying at one of the DLR hotels or off-property? If you have a good chunk of time in DLR, you will be able to try a lot of things over the course of a few days or more. I just didn't have enough time. We didn't spend as much time in the parks this year as last year and so I just didn't have any time to snack on the treats! I may just have to go into Blue Ribbon Bakery on my last day in December and grab some of the treats right before going home, then take them home with me!!!

Aside from treats, there are a lot of good meals to be had, too! You will have a great time!!

I know at least one person from DISboards who got violently ill with food poisoning after eating at TJ's, and DLR/Tortilla Jo's was not too concerned about it afterwards. They basically took the approach of, 'We inspect our facilities regularly, so there is no way it could be our fault that you got sick.' Never mind the fact that they could have had some bad poultry in their kitchen and served it, not realizing it was bad. That could happen in restaurants, no matter how by-the-book they are, but they didn't want to take responsibility. So that could be one reason TJ's is getting a bad reputation - food poisoning will tend to scare folks off. I don't know what others have experienced there, though. I don't need to eat there badly enough where I am willing to risk it. I will stick with the restaurants I like.

But I am glad that you have had great meals and service there - it sounds like they treated you really well!!!:goodvibes

moki, I'm guessing you went inside and ate? We did the quick window outside and it was just gross. The food was nasty and not worth the time or money we spent getting it. I'm guessing that inside is better but who knows.

Sherry, thanks for sharing that information with me. I had not heard about any of those cases before, so that provided a bit of insight for me. Aside from Rainforest Cafe that's really the only place in Downtown Disney that tends to have something everyone in my family will eat, so a lot of times Tortilla Jo's ends up being our choice. Thankfully, we haven't had any problems at all.

Pixiewings, we indeed have only eaten inside. When we get to the point of eating dinner out in Downtown Disney, it's generally because it's a bit later and we all want to be at a table service place where we can rest our feet in more comfortable seats. We've actually never had anything from the window outside, but I'll be sure to keep in mind that it's probably not the best choice and suggest we keep going inside instead of trying the window.

One of these trips we will make it inside. The time we went to the window was before we had AP's and before we were very familar with the dining choices off-site. We chose the window because the girls wanted something from the Jazz Kitchen Express, that was the best way for us to all be able to eat at a table together. :) We sat outside TJ's and loved the people watching, just not the food.
