After our fun and tasty lunch at Sci-Fi, the kids took off on their own and DH and I were on our own for dinner. We knew this in advance and had an ADR for La Hacienda. In the 20 plus years that we have been going to Disney, we have never eaten at the San Angel Inn, largely because the reviews for that restaurant have never been glowing. However, with every trip, DH would suggest that we go there, only to be knocked down by my reports that it did not receive a favorable rating on the disboards. While I firmly believe that everyone should try things for themselves, I was a bit leery about doing this with a cuisine we do not normally eat. However, with the opening of La Hacienda, I gave in and made an ADR. Sadly, we did not take any pictures in the restaurant. However, I will post some snack pictures at the end to make up for my lapse!
I was somewhat surprised by the interior of the restaurant. It is nice, but given the prime location on the water, I expected better use of the windows/tables. Many tables were situated in a way that only one person would see the view. Other tables had the view blocked by columns. In one area, there was no window at all. In addition, while the décor was nice, it did not have a Mexican feel to me and seemed sparsely decorated. All of this may appeal to some, it was just not my cup of tea.
We decided that we would each order something different. I ordered the shrimp tacos, which I thought were very good. They reminded me of dishes I have ordered at some of the chain restaurants (CPK), but I enjoyed the dish. DH ordered the pork tenderloin and was sorely disappointed. I tasted it and cannot blame him. Pork tenderloin is such an easy dish to get right. This was all wrong. Completely overcooked and dry. It was on a bed of incompatible veggies and sweet potato puree. Luckily the taco portion was large and DH shared that with me. For dessert, DH ordered the sorbet, which arrived in a melted mess. I had an apple dish, which was somewhat burned. Although we brought these issues to the attention of our waiter, he offered no replacement. Just as well, since we were full and a late snack awaited us in the Club lounge.
Some have asked whether this restaurant would be good for watching Illuminations. It really depends on where you sit. Since we finished up dinner at 9, we were in a location that would have enabled us to see some of the show, but a heavy rain broke out and we knew we had the kids ponchos, so we departed to find them and keep them dry. Well, we missed the show and the kids were soaked, but our intentions were good.
Now, for some treats. One of our favorite snack spots is Goofys. We took some photos of the yummy items in the case while we were waiting for my mammoth order. Here you go.

Next up, WPE and the Plaza, with lots of pictures.
As for our meal at La Hacienda, the cost came to $72 and we used two TS credits.
