Not sure yet what we are doing tonight. We leave tomorrow for a weekend up at the lake house so probably something quick and easy.

So we got back power Tuesday and so I did a grocery shopping that day but boy does my freezer look empty and clean:rotfl2:
I have never been so happy to cook :cool1:
Tuesday we had cheese steak sandwiches
Wednesday was chicken on the grill with rice and green beans
Tonight is spaghetti and sauce
Friday pizza and maybe fries
Saturday not really sure right now

I have dinner in the crockpot. Made a chicken stew out of leftovers from Monday's roasted chicken and veggie dinner.

Chicken Stew
Fried Okra
Cornbread

This is my plan for the next 3 nights:

-baked pork chops, corn on the cob, some type of potato
-spaghetti with artichoke hearts and tomatoes
-tacos

We're really strapped for cash lately with trying to buy everything for our trip in October. I don't get paid till Wednesday (or Thursday since Labor Day is Monday), but I'm just worried about getting through the next 3 days since I work the next 3 nights.

After trying to really regin in the grocery spending,we were with out power for 3 days. We did have to throw out some meat and frozen veggies :headache:

I am heading up the grocery store this today to restock the freezer. Extra money that I really don't have right now. :sad2:

I feel your pain

We are almost to a long weekend, folks! :cool1::banana::yay:

Dinner tonight:

Beefy Spanish Rice
Roasted Corn

Tomorrow is grocery day...

Tonight I decided to be a little venturous and prepare a "comfort" meal!

chicken fried steak w/white pepper gravy (Neeley's recipe)
squash casserole (Paula Deen recipe)
mashed potatoes

Years ago I attempted chicken fried steak for the first time, and it didn't turn out to well. Hopefully tonight will be better! :rolleyes1

This weekend DH wants to eat out at California Pizza Kitchen. We've never been, can't wait! :cool1:

I made something last night that was a huge hit- and it was a fly by the seat of my pants kind of meal- we had soccer practices, back to school night, play tryouts......... So I was going to crock pot it- then decided to stick something in the oven- to be ready when DH was getting home with a couple of the kids.

It was Chicken Thighs- dipped in lemon then dredged in bread crumbs- baked with sliced onions and some olive oil drizzled over it- 1 hour at 350- mmmgood.
Also cut some potatoes into wedges- rubbed olive oil on them- salt and pepper and some cajun seasoning. And voila! Yummy dinner.

Tonite- not as confident in my ability- I have not food shopped this week so it's slim pickings. But I will find something. Maybe pizza if I get the dough going now.

forgot to post this week

Sunday - Grilled steaks and sausage
Monday - Chicken enchilada soup
Tuesday - chicken quesadillas, homemade salsa, avocado, refried beans.
Wednesday - Chicken Jambalaya made with brown rice
Thursday - Spicy shredded beef burritos
Friday - turkey spaghetti sauce with whole wheat pasta, garlic bread and salad
Saturday - Having a hard time deciding on what to cook on Saturdays - soon we will have soccer and baseball so I should start thinking ahead

I am on my own tonight and I just do not feel like cooking a big meal just for myself. So, I am having left over hot dogs, mac and cheese, and sliced tomatoes (or cherry tomatoes... can't decide).

Now I need to decide if I want to make the Annie's mac and cheese I bought or the kraft deluxe stuff.

0-2 For chicken fried steak. :sad2:

I used too much vegetable oil, so the steaks did not come out crispy. Plus the white country gravy came out more of a "brownish" burnt gravy! :headache:

At least it was editable though!

Oh, well.....I'll have redeem myself some other time!

Other good old Disney movies:
Hawmps!
The Apple Dumpling Gang
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The Happiest Millionaire
The Gnome Mobile
Darby O"Gill and the Little People
Return to Witch Mountain
Mary Poppins
Tron
and I love all the animal movies like Charlie the Lonesome Cougar, Thomasina, The Incredible Journey.

Pete's Dragon! You have to see that one. One of my all time favorites.

Sorry, Hawmps may not be Disney. But it is cute and I remember seeing it at the Saturday Kiddie shows with the other Disney movies. We had to save up Pepsi bottlecaps to get in instead of money.

Tonight we had lasagne and caesar salad.
Sat. - steak, grilled mixed veggies, salad and bread
Sun. - roast chicken (although I actually do it in the crockpot - LOL!), scalloped potatoes, corn, tomato-cheese salad, biscuits and lettuce salad.
Mon - leftovers!
Tues. - (first day back at work) - chicken noodle soup with buns.
Wed. - (first day back at work with kids) - PWC BBQ meatballs (cooked and previously frozen), egg noodles and peas and corn
Thurs. - clubhouse sandwiches, watermelon.
Fri - make your own pizza

Whew!

My mom makes a great chicken fried steak and milk gravy. I really need to work on perfecting mine because it is one of my favorite comfort foods. You will get the hang of it! I promise!

I ended up going out to eat with a friend. It was a last minute thing and they had nothing in the house to cook up... so I treated her to some yummy food.

Did you lose the contents of your freezer? When we lost power for two weeks after Gustav our insurance paid for the contents. I just had to inventory it and send it in. I was shocked at how much $$$ we had tied up in the deep freeze. I think it was around $500!

Last night was our first football night. I made Sloppy Joe nachos to take to friends we were going to watch the game with but we decided to stay home becauese of the weather. Hubby and I ended up having that for dinner

Ground beef three nights in a row-a sure sign that I'm not planning!

I haven't posted for a little while so here goes. The day before yesterday we had Shrimp lomein from a package that was on sale at the grocery store. The kids loved it but DH and I felt something was missing. Last night the boys had ham steak and the girls and I had butter beans we all had scalloped potatoes and corn with our meal.
Tonight is taco night and I might make a cake for dessert.
Tomorrow is grilled cheese and tomato soup and hopefully leftover cake for dessert (I just don't want us eating it all in one day)
Tuesday DH and I are leaving for our anniversary trip. A three night B&B road trip. So we will be eating out Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday we are home but the kids are still at their grandparents so we may eat out again or we may decide to go shopping for something to cook together.
Saturday is hobo dinners and marshmallow cereal bars (I use cheerios) for dessert
Sunday Manicotti with Marinara and mixed veggies. Dessert is whatever junk food we get at our church's Big Night fair.
After that I think I need to grocery shop again.
