My goal for this year's trip was to eat something from every pavilion in the World Showcase. This was spread over the entire trip in a mix of TS, CS and Snacks, and is something I probably will never do again! But, it was fun, and here are the results.
Canada - First trip to Le Cellier, I had dinner here on Saturday night. I had the famous Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup and Mushroom Filet. Since it was my first time, my server brought me all three kinds of bread. I liked the pretzel bread, which is good for dipping in the soup, but I think my favorite may have been the multi-grain/sunflower roll, which went best with the maple sugar butter. (The sourdough roll was OK, but nothing unique.) I am now firmly in the camp that would like to see a Counter Service place in Canada just to sell that cheese soup. I swear I wiped that bowl clean. The filet was good and I enjoyed it. I'm not much of a mushroom person, and just picked at my risotto - I really probably should have gone with my instincts and asked to swap it out with something else. I did not try dessert; I was so stuffed by that point, I couldn't have looked at another bite of food. As a note: I arrived about 20 minutes early and was told to come back in about 10-15 minutes. Once I did check in and was waiting for my table, I saw a couple of different parties come in and try for a walk-up, only to be told the restaurant was totally booked. They were busy, and the tables are close to each other, as many have noted. Final verdict, I enjoyed this, glad I finally tried this, but it's not high on my list to return to.
UK - Yorkshire County Fish & Chips, still one of my favorite CS meals in all of WDW. I will say, I did get a "shrinkinatored" piece of fish this time (the other piece was the same size I've had in the past). This was my first meal on arrival day; I took it and sat on a bench back in the pavilion, by the garden area.
France - Les Halles for dessert after my Fish & Chips. Oh, my goodness, I owe such a debt to the person who posted the picture of this on the Dis shortly before my trip: Duo au Chocolat! Food Find of the Trip!! A little layer of chocolate cake topped with dark chocolate mousse and white chocolate mousse, with chocolate all over and a square of chocolate on top. So good, four days later I was telling Anna and Elsa about this one when they brought up the subject of chocolate.
Morocco - Tangierine Cafe, Lamb Shawarma Platter, my other must-do CS meal. I hopped over here from DHS on Sunday just to have this for lunch. As good as I remember, and still a big bunch of food. I'm still not a big tabbouleh eater, but the lamb was delish (love the sauce), and couscous salad, pita & hummus all good. I'm very intrigued by Spice Road Table, but I couldn't miss this. Next trip, I'm going to see if I can't hit both.
Japan - Kabuki Cafe, Rainbow Kaki Gori. Such a nice treat on a sunny day; I think I got this on Sunday afternoon before I went back to DHS. I noticed that this year they served it in a deeper cup; last year, it was in a dish, piled way up high, and I remember being afraid I was going to knock it over and lose it.
US - Block & Hans beer stand, just a Mickey pretzel (no beer). Didn't get the cheese sauce, just nibbled on the pretzel because it was Saturday afternoon and I was trying not to ruin my dinner. I took most of the pretzel with me, but that didn't really work out too well. Oh, well. I also got a Doofenslurper at Fife & Drum on Tuesday afternoon, if that counts.
Italy - Via Napoli, baby! 3 years in a row, and this is still a must-do for me. Mmmmmm, Quattro Formaggi pizza with strawberry aqua fresca to drink. And oh, dear, I finally tried the zeppole for dessert and it was as good as expected. I may have to hit Tutto Gusto or Tutto Italia next year for a tiramisu fix so I can do the zeppole again at VN.
Germany - Karamell Kuche. This year I got a milk chocolate covered caramel with sea salt and a dark chocolate covered caramel with sea salt, and I can't really say which is better - it really just depends on your chocolate preference (personally I lean toward milk), but you can't go wrong with either. Watching them make the caramel corn, though, I may have to give that a try next year.
China - Lotus Blossom Cafe. I stopped here on Saturday and just got an order of potstickers. They were OK, nothing special. I know there were folks on the Dis who recommended a tea slush from Joy of Tea, but it was cool and damp and I just wasn't in the mood that day.
Norway - Kringla Bakery og Cafe. Monday lunch, I had my first Norwegian Club sandwich and a Troll Horn. The sandwich was really good, warm and toasty with melted cheese, but way too huge for one person! (If you want a good lunch to split, though, I recommend it.) Loved the Troll Horn.
Mexico - San Angel Inn for dinner on Tuesday night, my first trip here. I had the Mahi Mahi a la Veracruzana. It was good, I liked it, everything was fine, but I really preferred my dinner at La Hacienda last year. Like Le Cellier, I'm glad I finally tried this, but it's not high on the return list.
In the end, I'm glad I did this, it made me try some new things, some of which I liked more than others. Next trip, when I'm not trying to hit every country, I will probably try Tutto Italia and Spice Road Table (and STILL get in my must-dos at Via Napoli and Tangierine Cafe).
