Josh has just written up a wonderfully comprehensive post on getting the most out of FP+ at the Magic Kingdom, now that F- has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

It's intended to help both onsite and offsite visitors. And it includes a step by step guide to navigating Disney's MyMagic+ website.

This is part 1. Part 2 should be tomorrow.

Magic Kingdom Cheat Sheet Day 1 and FastPass+ Kiosks Part 1

VERY useful stuff!

Thanks for posting that. I found it interesting (and commented to that effect) that he states that an Annual Passholder with a MagicBand can book up to 14 days of FP+ experiences. Everything I have read (and my own experience) suggests that AP holders can only have up to 7 days worth of FP+ booked at a time.

I don't see where he said 14 days, I see 7 - maybe he corrected it?

"As an Annual Passholder with a MagicBand from a recent on-site stay, I can currently book up to 7 days of FP+ experiences simply by going to DisneyWorld.com and selecting FastPass+ from the drop down menu."

I'm glad to see Josh make this post, he's always got good info.

Am I the only one who is sad that the entire Disney experience now needs to be so planned? From rides to dining ressies, it's just seems to take the magic and relaxation away. And yes, I know it's a necessary evil especially if you have kids who want to ride a lot of the rides and don't want to wait...

...but I'm still sad about it lol!

He has corrected it. Must admit, I was confused by his statement so glad to see he has changed it.

I was in the parks on the day he made his cheat sheet, and still found his tips very helpful. The thoroughness was great!

You're not alone. We plan because we have to, not because we want to.

Planning has always given people the edge, but it wasn't as difficult to your efficiently without planning it in advance before FP+. We book ADRs because we want to eat at certain places at decent times, not because we enjoy having it planned. That was the extent of our planning before but now the same thing applies to FP+ and park days for us.

But it really doesn't have to be planned. I don't make ADRs on the days I'm in the parks. I still manage to eat just fine. I never pulled a lot of FastPasses. I might have pulled a few over an entire trip but rarely more then 1 or 2 a day and the majority of days I didn't pull a single one. I have not made any FP+ reservations for my upcoming trip because I don't want or need to pre-plan so much.

It is entirely possible to tour Disney spontaneously without reservation for everything or really anything. It was possible before legacy FastPass was ever deployed and it is possible today.

The worst day at Disney is still a pretty darn good day. I refuse to let these little things bother me.

Are you limited to 7 days and then how many days off until you can use them again. We have a 9 night trip coming up with Ap's linked to magic band from last year trip.

My understanding is it's a rolling 7 day window. You can initially reserve up to 7 days at a time, and as each day passes, another day is added to the end.

Agreed - We just got back from an 8 day trip. We had the DDP, but booked no ADRs or FP+ until after we arrived, and most on the day that we used the reservations. No problems.

I hope that is correct. Meaning after we use it on day 1 day day 8 is added and after 2 then day 9. so on and so on I hope I got this right! :confused3

No, you are definitely not alone. We are also not planners. We like to sleep in (it's vacation after all!) then hit the parks around 10. We utilize fastpasses as often as possible and park hop, often hitting two or three parks a day. We don't usually know what park we are going to until we get to the bus stop. I know people are saying it won't ruin your trip and you can still ride the same things, but when you are used to not waiting in long lines, it's a little frustrating. More time waiting and less time doing. Especially since we don't know what this is going to be like when it's not the slow season and attendance increases later in the year.

That's how it worked for me. I had a 3 day trip in November and a 5 day trip in December. When my window opened up for December, I could only make reservations for 4 of the days, so I cancelled the reservations for one of the November days to open that up (figuring that I would need the FPs more on NYE day). Then after I used the first day of the November trip, I made reservations for the third day.

We are passholders and have a 9 night stay (onsite) coming up in March. I was able to book fastpass + for all the days of my trip when our fastpass booking window opened.

There have been posters saying that too when they have a continuous stay of more than 7 days.

If I had a trip coming up I would expect 7 days and try to see if I could get more.

It is if you are an AP holder, have had a previous onsite stay, and don't have a pending onsite room reservation.

If you have an upcoming onsite reservation, then a window equal to the length of your stay will open for you.

Thanks for writing and posting this. It is a much needed tutorial on FP+.
After reading threads and threads on FP+, I am still very confused. This write-up is really clear and helpful!!

I know with FP+ system, we need to do RD, set FP+ properly and play strategically. Problem is, I sound like a silly keener to the rest of my group who wants a "vacation" at Disney. Dragging the family out of bed and eat early is already a challenge, let alone hitting RD and the rest.

We are going in March and I am looking at the FP+ booking at home these days.
I hope there will be write-ups for the other 3 parks soon, as they will be very helpful in our planning.

My understanding is that you can book FP+ for every day/night that you are actually staying onsite. However, if you are an AP holder who is able to book FP+ because you have a previous onsite stay, if you are not actually staying onsite you can only have up to 7 days of FP+ experiences at any one time.

In our case, we are staying onsite in March (11th-18th). I have been able to book FP+ for all 8 days but I cannot book any more for after our stay has ended.
