Easy way to search motels?

I have yet to book by motel for our early August trip. My trouble is every budget type search site does not list or filter how I would like it. :) I am stuck toggling between maps, to find the location and prices and back and forth. Anyone know of a site that lists via proximity to disney? I am trying to go lowest price without it being unsafe. It will be just my 14 yr old daughter and myself, so we can walk a bit but prefer something very close so we are not wandering unsafe areas at midnight.

We stayed at the Desert Inn a couple years ago in August but the prices are nearly double right now. Any recommendations for lowest price/decent place?

Thanks,

Becky

I typically use tripadvisor. You can select options to filter your results, such as pool, Disneyland, kid friendly, breakfast, wifi etc. You can also have them sort it based on proximity, price, or availability. I have found their prices to be on point to whatever the hotel is currently offering. But once I have settled on which one I want, I repeatedly check the actual website for openings or price drops. I also like that their reviews are current and do not seem to be filtered.

How far is typically safe and easy for a couple of females to walk late at night? We will likely stay in DL until the very end of the day, because we are only getting 1 day in the park.

I have only stayed within a half mile and usually on Harbor Blvd. I have never felt unsafe. What dates are you looking at?

Unless you need a super cheap rate, under 125.00 or so, I would stick with the ones across from the entrance on Harbor. I used Google maps to narrow down my options, wrote them down, and looked at the hotel's website. If they have availability, it seems like Expedia and all the rest won't be able to beat the hotel's own price. We have stayed at the Fairfield Inn, which was lovely, and the Best Western Park Place Inn, which was a bit less lovely but still worked for us. We have reservations booked for the popular Hojo and Hotel Menage for our next trips and there are a lot more to try. There is also the secondary strip of hotels AnD restaurants on Katella which runs along the other border of the parks. There are a lot of narrow lots housing motels so it can seem overwhelming, but Trip Advisor should help narrow it down for you. Have fun planning!

When you search on Travelocity it has a little box/window (on the left hand side) that says "search on map". That will give you a map of the area with little dots - put your mouse over the dots and it will tell you the rate or if it is sold out.

There is also this map that I love, it shows hotels and also restaurants and how far they are from DLR. It tells you if they are walking, shuttle or car distance -

I'm a pro at searching for hotels since I do it right up to the week of our trip, looking for deals and lower prices than what I have booked. In terms of distance, you can look at this map: www.accommodationsneardisney.com. Look for places in the green area, as these are generally considered the most walkable. For safety, I think you would be fine at any of these along Harbor or Katella. The Candy Cane Inn has its own shuttle, as does the new Anaheim Majestic Gardens. You could easily hop on and off in the transportation plaza and be delivered right to your hotel.

I would recommend looking at the map, and looking at each hotel's website. You can also do a search on Hotels.com or Orbitz and look for the places that are close. If I'm considering a hotel, I read the TripAdvisor reviews. I also go to Google Maps and get a view of the hotel itself and what's around it. You can also see the proximity to Disneyland by using the map to cruise down the street.

Having said that, I would look at Best Western Anaheim Inn, Ramada Maingate, Camelot Inn and Suites, Tropicana Inn and Suites, Carousel Inn and Suites, Best Western Park Place Inn. Del Sol Inn, and Fairfield Inn and Suites. These are the closest to the crosswalk that gets you to the entrance. The walk from any of these is quick and easy and will be well-populated by park-goers when the park closes. We are also going the first week of August and things are starting to book up. I think you'll still find something reasonable. None of the hotels right along Harbor will be that inexpensive. You pay for the location, but it's worth it to be so close. Good luck!

Thank you all! That map is great, btw! Very clear. I feel like I have more to go off of now.
Is it typical that from a couple years ago in August, the same week, that prices would be so much higher this year? Is there something big going on that week?

I don't think there's anything in particular that week, besides the 60th anniversary celebration that's going on all year. The hotels are probably expecting to book up, so they raise prices. Supply and demand at its finest!

Sadly, I think it is just due to the growing popularity of DLR and their new ability to fill rooms because more people are taking longer vacations not just day trips. I believe that was one of their goals when building Downtown Disney, DCA, and DCA 2.0. There may be conventions in town, I know there is a link for that schedule somewhere. But overall, I think a lot of price raises happened due to increased demand and renovations.

I took DD on a girls only trip several years ago when she was 7 and we stayed at a timeshare off of Katella about 1 mile away. I always felt safe making the walk even at midnight. I think any hotels/motels along Harbor/Katella are safe to walk with just the two of you. There are always a lot of people out, I never felt like we were "alone".

You mentioned not liking maps, but I find the hotels.com map view to be very easy to use. Just enter your dates, hover over each hotel and the price is listed below.
