If my memory serves me correctly there is no easy way to get between these 2 parks. I remember taking the monorail from MK to transportation center then getting on a bus to AK. Am I remembering correctly??

There is a DIRECT bus to/from the MK gates bus station to/from AK

There are no "park buses" at TTC.

There was a major thread about getting to/from/between all of the parks just yesterday, HERE.

There are park buses at the parks, so no need to go to TTC. Not difficult at all. If you are pressed for time you could try Uber, but i am not sure where they are allowed to pick up people from parks.

There is "direct" transportation between all the WDW theme parks.
The frequency of departure for each is approximately every 20 minutes, give or take, all day long.

Most routes are via Disney Buses.

Here are the "park-to-park" Disney Transportation direct connections:

MK> Epcot = Monorail to TTC, Switch to 2nd Monorail to Epcot
MK> DHS = Direct Bus
MK> AK= Direct Bus

AK> DHS= Direct Bus
AK> Epcot= Direct Bus
AK> MK= Direct Bus

DHS> MK= Direct Bus
DHS> AK= Direct Bus
DHS> Epcot= Direct Bus (Epcot Front Gate) or Boat (Epcot Intl. Gateway)
......Boats ("Friendships") make 3 interim stops at the Epcot area resorts.

Epcot > MK= Monorail to TTC, Switch to 2nd Monorail to MK
Epcot > AK= Direct Bus
Epcot> DHS= Direct Bus (Epcot Front Gate) or Boat (Epcot Intl. Gateway)
......Boats ("Friendships") make 3 interim stops at the Epcot area resorts.

The buses have their destinations shown on them on illuminated signs.
The bus stops at the parks are also marked with signage.

As a rule-of-thumb, allow 40-60 minutes to get from the gates of one park to the gates of another park. The actual on-the-road time is far less than that, but you need to factor in the amount of time that it might take to wait for the next bus to arrive and load.

They have always had them.

Disney sells "Park Hopper" tickets, so they provide the transportation
to allow guests to "Park Hop."
Hmmm. I haven't park hopped in YEARS, so maybe I just don't remember. Maybe I was thinking of resort to resort buses. LOL.

I seem to recall that the part to park busses used to be at the TTC a long time ago.

Yup.
MK's "other park" Park buses used to terminate at TTC prior to Dec. of 2014.
And, years prior to that, even the WDW resort buses used to terminate there for MK.
(Currently, a bus to/from Epcot will be running at TTC when the monorail is not operating
on that run.)

TTC now has very few buses.
It is currently used most often for "Non-Disney" resort buses (Orlando area resorts) including Shades of Green, the on-property
resort operated by the US military.

I'm glad I wasn't imagining things and it seems it wasn't all that long ago :). I assume the busses were moved from the TTC after the MK bus depot construction/expansion was finished.
