Well here it is. Here is the great answer to the title of my post.
Are you ready for it.
The way I get my discounts for WDW when I do not go via my DVC points; Is I ask the rep when I call in to make the initial reservation. It is simple and direct. also I try to be a nice as possible when I call them because remember they are human too and they have their good and bad days.
Then I call every week or so to see if there is a better deal on the trip or any portion of my planned trip. Typically I do really well, I can also tell you that I have done Disney on the fly where I planned the trip less than 14 days before I left for the trip and I got even better rates and deals on things.
One time I bet my lovely DW that I could plan a trip to WDW and she said that I could not do it with her criteria. Her Criteria was that we were to have more than a typical hotel room so we could have some privacy from kids and no just have a room. the second was that well we were able to get there cheaply because when you buy air fare less than 14 days before it is hard to get great deals other than using cheap seats etc. the Last one was she gave me a budget for all this.
So i set out to prove her wrong and called Disney and asked flat out if there was nay deals on rooms first. at that time they had some great deals on rooms at the then Disney institute. We got a 2 bedroom for less than 100 dollars and that was great. then I asked if there were any other deals and well there were tons of deals on tickets and dining. all you need do is ask and talk with the rep sometimes they can pass no knowledge that can help you out financially on these trips. Then I bought some books and did some on-line research.
Low and behold I got the trip scheduled and set up in less than 3 days. including getting us a deal on a US Air flight form where we live in Philly and the whole thing was under budget from what she gave me as the trip budget.
So it can be done and as an aside to this we then bought DVC that trip and are now proud members of the DVC and are in the midst of planning another getaway to WDW in May of this year for our Anniversary.
Remember It is easy if your polite and take your time when you are talking with the rep. be nice to them and they are nice to you.
