If a room measures 11 feet 3 inches by 13 feet 5 inches, is it 152.55 square feet? Do you just multiply the 2 numbers including the inch measurements, or do I have to do something else? It has been a LONG time since I did real math...

I got 150.94... but yes, you measure length times width.

take out the inches

11' x 13' = 143 sq feet
then 3 inches x 5 inches = 15 inches, so another foot and three inches

total 144' 3" sq feet

somwhere lies the true answer!

First convert the numbers to decimals
11 ft 3 inches = 11.25 feet
13 ft 5 inches = 13.42 feet

The answer is 150.975 sq feet.

You don't have to convert to inches, that is just adding an extra step.

Then divide by the number of square inches in a square foot
12 inches x 12 inches = 144 inches in a square foot.

The result is 163.125 square feet.

13' 5" is 161 inches. Otherwise, your math is fine

11.25 x 13.42 = 150.97 so pretty close to 151 square feet

Following steps using a pocket calculator.

1. Start by converting 5 inches to feet. 5/12 = 0.4166666

2. Add the 13 inches. 13'5" = 13.4166666

3. Multiply by 11.25 feet = 150.93749 sq feet.

Method 2

1. 11' 3" = (11x12) + 3 = 135 "

2. 13'5" = 161"

3. 135x161 = 21,735 sq in

4. Divide by 144 (square inches in a square foot) = 150.9375

Final 150.93749 and 150.9375 are very close.
