I woke up to an infomercial which seemed to be answering a dream... an easy to attach crown molding that is cut by a scissor! https://www.tvgoods.com/carts/easymold/

I really want to put up crown molding in my bedroom and don't want to deal with the trouble of the nails and the miter cuts.

Anyone have any personal info on this or is it too new?

TIA!

Well watching the guys put up some crown molding in my house - it was flatter than I thought it would be, and not very sturdy wood - I don't know why this stuff wouldn't work. I wonder how much it looks like the real thing....it's up high enough, no one will see it up close. I'd be interested if anyone has used it.

I thought the same, the main reason I want it is to cover my horrible paint job! LOL!

I painted the room and since it has an uneven ceiling the paint line is off. I lie in bed just SEETHING looking at it and don't want to try painting it again. Crown molding is the best alternative and this seems TOO easy... just wanted to know if anyone has tried it.

I have installed many a wood crown molding. It is a difficult task to end up with a quality installation.

This new product looks much too good to be true. You still have to miter the corners and most all homes do not have perfect corners.

But of course they do advertise it on TV, so all of the claims must be true. :rolleyes1

LOL, Taylor... I thought the same thing, most of these "as seen on TV" things are not worth the tape they're on....

I realize they have to be mitered but they don't need to be cut with a saw, and take it from one who has TWO miter saws, I know the nuisance they are. I have installed base, chair rail and picture molding, but due to my height (I'm not five feet) and my bad shoulder, have not ventured into crown molding. I guess I'm just hoping this will be my saving grace.

I think you'd really notice that this is not real wood. Rarely have seen anything that's peel and stick that works on walls. First of all this stuff would have to be totally light weight in order to expect it to stay and if it is that lightweight your really going to notice it. If it's not lightweight it's going to wind up falling down.

For $60 I really don't think it's going to be worth it

If the main thing that is scaring you off from doing Crown is the mitering (which can be a pain) they sell decorative blocks that you put in the corners of the room where the two mouldings meet. No mitering needed plus it gives an even more ornate look.

Obi offers a good suggestion.

I have done this in the past also. The proper term if you are asking is "plinth" blocks.

I have used those corner blocks and they ARE awesome. I've used them on the chair rail, which is the easiest molding to apply because it's LOW. My biggest concern with the crown molding is the height. I can only hold my arm up but so high because of my shoulder and the peel and stick llooks like it can be done easier than depending on my bad arm to hammer in nails.

I agree that the peel and stick industry has a bad rap, I fear that I'll wake up with it all on the floor stuck to my rug and cats... :earseek: This is why I posted this in the first place, wondering if anyone had tried it.

We spent hours (okay I'm lying it was days) trying to get the corners right on our crown molding. I just couldn't get why I couldn't get it. I still a little sketchy, but we got the blocks too. We only did one room, but on qvc I saw the magic miter saw. I got it for dh for xmas :) so I'll have to report how it goes. It's supposed to be really easy...famous last words.

Robin, rent a cordless rechargable nail gun from a tool rental place (some Home Depots may even rent them). Then it's just a matter of pointing and shooting the nail.

A warning though, if you are like Lauri you will LOVE the power and the next thing you know you will own 5 of them and will be nailing together everything in the house! :rotfl:

Ahh.. the correct term had escaped me at the moment. All I could remember is that the word sounded like you had a bad toothache when you said it.

This makes me think of one time my mom and I decided to put Contact paper up on the walls of a room.
It said it would work.
We roughed up the walls a little so it would stick better.
It stuck great..................
while we were putting it up.
It still looked great when we went to bed, but................
when we got up the next morning, it was all laying in rolls on the floor.

I don't like peel and stick.

We were not angry. In fact we thought it was pretty funny.
My Grandfather did was a professional painter and wallpaperer, so we were more embarrased that we had tried a "shortcut" (when we knew better and were perfectly capable of putting up real wallpaper) than anything else.

On a positive point, it was still sticky and usable after it fell off. So, we covered alll her shoeboxes with the contact paper and she ended up with a really nice looking closet. (with lots of covered boxes)
