What is the best method for getting autographs? Should I bring the books with us and if so where is a good place to purchase them? My kids are looking forward to getting signatures. Should I make them carry them in the park? Please help! :flower:

You can get official WDW autograph books almost every where you turn in WDW!!! You can get them at your resort gift shop or in the parks. I would suggest that you get them as soon as you get to your resort. Then be sure to carry them with you at all times. We got caught without one last Nov and had to have Pocohantas sign the back of a shop receipt!!! My dd started getting autographs when she was 6 and now, at almost 12, isn't as into the whole thing. But, she still carries that book/pen around, just in case she sees a character she has never gotten before.

As to where to find characters....you can book a character meal. That is probably the easiest and least time consuming way to meet the characters. Then when you are in the parks, you will see different characters throughout the parks. Grab a park guidemap when you enter the park. It will give you spots and times for the character greetings.

My dd has always carried her book/big pen in her fanny pack. Then she can just run over, get into the line and get her autograph and we take her photo. Have a great trip and get lots of photos and autographs!!!

You can buy an autograph book at stores in the parks and DTD. Usually they are displayed near the cashiers at most of the stores.

As far as getting the character autographs, I find Character breakfasts are the best, but you also have to pay for breakfast. While dining, the characters circulate throughout the restaurant, stopping at tables along the way for photos and book signings.

You'll also find characters throughout the parks at various times of the day. Some are listed on the times guide you pick up at the entrance of the parks, some are just stumbled upon. If you're looking for a specific character, just ask a CM and they can usually find out where to look.

HTH - have a great trip!!! :teeth:

After seeing the long lines in the parks to have the characters sign the books we do the character meals. That to me is the only way to go.lol :flower:

Make sure you put your name and address in the front of the autograph book in case your husband leaves it in the stroller (or something :-)) when he turns the stroller in. Then Disney will mail it back to you!

We got some very cute ones at the local dollar store. They are camera-shaped, hard cover books with plenty of blank pages. I also found some fat pens there. I would recommend buying some ahead of time and taking them in a backpack or fannypack. :flower:

I'm just so excited about these silly little books and the fact that we are leaving in less than a week. Disney-on-the-brain has paralyzed me. :earseek:

often overlooked autograph opportunity......regular Cms will gladly sign the autograph book, usually with a cute saying, riddle, or poem. My kids enjoyed talking with the CMs while we waited for parades, or just taking a break.

We just carried ours in the backpack and whenever we saw a character we got in line and got the autograph. I think we were lucky b/c we happened to walk up on so many just as they got there or the lines were really short. I happened to be in a store in the UK at Epcot and saw Tigger bounce by...lol! I walked down to where I saw him and there were Pooh, Eyeore and Tigger waiting to take pictures! That morning we had just walked into Epcot and the Characters on Holiday bus had just pulled up and we got Chip & Dale, Rafiki, and Pinocchio & Geppetto. There were a few others there but we had already gotten them. The morning we went to the MK, the train had just pulled up and there were all the characters there! That night it was raining so the park was pretty much deserted. We walked into the Toontown fair and got all kinds of autographs with very little wait.

I would buy the book when you get there at your resort or before you go into the parks...you never know who you will meet!

I'm a scrapbooking DM and I've made DS a personalized autograph book by cutting small individual rectangles apx 4x6 big enough for one character to sign each page. I let DS get in on the act by decorating the cover page. Had the cover page laminated and had the whole thing spiral bound.

The reason behind this Martha Stewart madness is.......when he gets home the autograph book wont get shoved into a drawer somewhere....It will get unbound and matched with the photos of him and the character for his scrapbook.

Since you mentioned binding and laminating, can you tell me where you had this done. I've just finished mine but it is already to fat for the original binding.

I always pre purchase a 5x7 scrapbook before we go to WDW. My DS (4yr) has one from each of his 3 trips and absolutely loves to take them out and look at them. We have the character sign on one page and then when we get home I place the picture that I took with my DS on the page across from it. It makes a wonderful souvenier!!! I always let him help me finish the book by using Disney stickers to correspond with each characters page. FYI...if there is a particular character that your kids like and you are having trouble finding them, just ask any cast member with a phone and have them call the "character hotline". They will be able to tell you when and where to find whichever character you need!

My parents actually own a laminator....but you can go to Kinko's they laminate and bind there.

Can't remember the price, but was reasonable. Seems not over $15 with shipping....Good Luck... I also found clickable Sharpie brand markers/4 pack at Big Lots for $3 (vs. $12 Sharpie)

My 4 year old LIVES for character encounters. We always carry a book and pen. We do character meals, look for random meeting opportunities and we brave the lines in Toontown! She loves to go there and is really good waiting in line knowing the payoff is a couple of autographs and pictures. She does not do well in line for Ariel at the grotto though, too hot and long. We just buy the books there, she likes to show the characters their pictures on the front. We have to see every character every trip... she'll only be 4 one time so I try to be patient with her. :flower: I hope this helps.

If you buy a small disney scrapbook (I believe CM sells them) You can just have them sign the pages and then add the photo's after.

The first time made me smile, but the second time cracked me up!Thanks :rotfl2: This made me laugh out loud! I can feel your excitement! :rotfl:

This was my DD6 and DD3 1st trip to the World. I bought them books at the local dollart store because I couldn't see paying the Disney premium at their ages. I didn't even know if they would be into it or not. They were both REALLY into getting the autographs.
A few suggestions I got from friends (and this board, of course) was to attach your pen to the book. I just used curling ribbon and made it long enough to be able to sign on either side of the book. We happened onto a lot of characters with short lines or just going to their locations and we never had to fumble for the books and/or the pens. Definitely write your name adn address too, my girls would have been devestated if we lost their books!
I totally agree with the character meal. We actaully did dinner our 1st night at Chef Mickey's. My girls got 6 autographs that night and it eliminated waiting in line for those main Disney characters. I actaully thought the food was good, I did not expect much since it was buffet and it is certainly not "fine Dining" but it was perfect for us and my kids lived the ice cream and toppings bar.
Anyway, have a magical trip! We did and cannot wait to go back!
