My DW and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary in September '06. I am a little concerned about sailing in the Gulf or Caribbean because of hurricanes, storms, etc...during this time. Those of you who have cruised during this time, how did you decide to sail or not to sail? :confused3

Thanks in advance for your output... :goodvibes

Hello fellow Hoosier! I would do a search within the cruise forum and type in "hurricane season". A big list of topics will pop up, even the cruise meets threads. Look for the threads related to your topic/concern.

Here's one of the threads I found and the link, Who sailed during hurricane season last summer, and what were your experiences? http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=860151&highlight=hurricane+season

Our family sailed on the Wonder Sept. 19th, 2004 (four day). We drove. If you are curious to know about our trip, just send me a Private Message (PM) and I'll tell you all about our trip sailing inbetween Ivan and Jeanne. Happy planning.

Our anniversary is also in September..and we decided to sail then because of the great rates and wonderful weather.

Get the trip insurance and don't worry about things you can't control. No one can tell if there will be a hurricane or not, if there is, the Captain will guide the ship around the bad weather.

We would definately sail in september again, in fact..we are looking at september for our daughters cruise wedding.

DCL's 7-night cruises on the Disney Magic in September 2006 are:

  • September 2, 2006 - 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise
  • September 9, 2006 - 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise
  • September 16, 2006 - 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise to Costa Maya
  • September 23, 2006 - 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise
  • September 30, 2006 - 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise

Reports from previous years are that the captain will alter the itinerary to avoid hurricanes. As long as you can depart from and return to Port Canaveral, you should have a good cruise, away from any hurricane. There's just a small chance that your ports may change if a hurricane is threatening the original itinerary.

If Port Canaveral is threatened, then DCL can use another port, such as Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. However, then the passengers face problems with existing flights and ground transporation arrangements. If flights into Orlando are cancelled, chances are it will be difficult to get last minute flights to other Florida destinations.

The cruise industry has successfully operated cruises out of Florida ports during hurricane season for many years. It's seldom been a problem.
