Due to my impeccable sense of timing I managed to break my foot 3 weeks before our cruise! I'm wondering if anyone has experience with such a predicament and how you handled excursions on the Eastern cruise. Our original plan on St. Maarten was to taxi to Maho Beach and watch some planes land. In St. Thomas we're booked on the St. John Trunk Bay Snorkle trip. Right now I can't walk on my foot at all and I'm using a combo of crutches and a knee scooter to get around. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I'll be able to hobble short distances, but who knows?! I'm hoping I can still see some of the islands, but not sure how to go about it. I would love to hear anyone's experiences or tips!

I recommend discussing with your doctor and/or physical therapist as to what activities they recommend you can do. Are you in a boot? Will you be allowed to take that off and swim or walk? Accessibility can be a challenge in some foreign ports if you are used to the U.S. where most places are required to be accessible. Especially some touristy areas are simply too old to modify, and many countries have cobblestones which I would think makes a knee-scooter near impossible. Hopefully others will post specifics of accessibility in those particular ports to give you an idea. I think a manual wheelchair might be helpful for some longer distances as I doubt you'll be able to walk that well (if at all) in just 3 weeks.

Enjoy your cruise!

I would not go to Maho Beach. If a big plane takes off you probably won't be able to support yourself with a broken foot and risk breaking more body parts. I went 2 years ago and had a grown woman get thrown into me. If my fiance wasn't behind me I would have toppled over and been pushed into the ocean.
