We will be cruising the 7 day Eastern Caribbean in January. Now that it is too late to make changes, I realized that it may be rough water cruising from Florida to St. Martin. Typically, is this true or are waters calm. :cool1:

In Jan, a CM told me the western waters tended to be bumpier. We had fairly calm seas on our Eastern cruise except for one night near the end.

:goodvibes I think that once you pass the GUlf stream you are ok..SO on the first night you do seem to feel the waters a bit more..After that, they are calmer..(most of the time.. :teeth: )

We have done three easterns, and the only rought one, was last September with Jeanne..And we will not go there... :sad2:

You could be prepared by having some motion sickness meds before you go..Our family did not need them, but we were of the very few who did not last September..Better to be safe..

Mammasita,

I think we were on your sailing. Man oh Man were those waters bad. We've been on many cruises and I have never seen anything like it prior and doubt I will ever again. NOT a happy memory.

My experience is that the Western Waters are typically rougher as well. The smoothest is if you just stay nearby and do the Bahamas.

Wow, it was incredible..I have never seen rougher either, as I doubt many did..There was someone Jandave??? who posted pics of the pools looking like water pistols...It was something else..There was this poor man who feel down the stairs during a rough swell, and they thought he broke both arms, and had 2 black eyes..Poor guy...

We're going to scare the poor souls reading this that are concerned about rough waters. Yes, I saw that picture you are talking about. I printed it out last yearand put it in my photo album. Of course I saw it with my own eyes as well...not to mention experienced the effects. We are sailing in July to avoid hurricane weather this year.

I was on the same cruise as JanDave and it was "bumpy" but the worse seas I have ever encountered were on our Alaskan cruise. I have done 3 Eastern cruises and the rough nights are usually the first night out and then Thursday - both times crossing the Gulf Stream. Bonine is a life saver for us - just wish I had been smart enough to take it when we crossed over to Seward on theat Alaskan cruise.
