We drove down from Charlotte, NC on Saturday before Easter Sunday. When we left it was a bit chilly, but it was sunny and we were excited!! We were driving with another family who had never gone before, two adults and three boys. Along the way we would switch various children to make the ride more bearable for all, even with video game consoles and movies, they still fight!!
It took us about 9.5 hours, we were all really ready to get out of that van. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Family Suites for two nights. It was very friendly and very active. Kids everywhere. Pool was big, with put-put, water fountains, the kids loved it! We swam and had dinner at the Hotel. It was fun, the kids were very happy.
The next morning was Easter Sunday. I woke early to hide the eggs, prepare the baskets, etc. It seemed weird to not be at home for the egg hunt. The hotel had an egg hunt at 8:00am sharp- but all those little easter bunnies were too early for us. The kids woke up around 10:00am, found the eggs, baskets, had breakfast- and off to Downtown Disney we went! THe guys and the boys all went to Disney Quest (highlight for the 11 year old).
Me and my good friend Becky, mother of the three boys- took off shopping- OH HAPPY DAY!!!! We were so glad to not have to answer to any "mom!, MoM! I need this MOM, he hit me MOM, where is my wallet MOM" we took our time with all the wonderful shops. I called DH to check-in on the DS-4. He couldn't do much of the games and was very crabby. DH came out and passed him and other son to us. We hit Lego Land, the water Fountain, the Toy Store. We checked in on RainForest Cafe on the wait and decided we would come back around 4:30 ish to get in for dinner for all 9 of us. We bought some pins- we were pin crazy. We then went back and were told we could get in right away, but all of our party had to be here. I called DH and told him to round everyone up because the crowds were pouring in. Becky then sweetly addressed someone else, told them we were all here, and received a time of 10 minute wait for our "adventure to begin." Just for the record- Becky is much nicer than I am. I then started to get really nervous because I didn't think the boys would make it out of Disney Quest and we would lose our seating. By then the crowds were pouring in and I hear the wait move to 30-40 minutes. At the very last second they called our name, 1/2 the crew showed up, they sat us anyway, and the other 1/2 showed up about 10 minutes later. We ate a ton, bought some gifts- shopped some more, and went back to the hotel very tired from shopping all day - around 7:30. Downtown Disney was then a mad house- folks were pouring in from all directions, I was glad we were leaving.
At that point a storm came through and I started to worry about our plans for EPCOT the next day, but fell asleep happy. oh yes- one more thing- DS-11 had designed a rollercoaster that DH rode in the simulator and they bought a video of the ride, it was really funny to watch! DH had told DS he would ride whatever DS designed- it was great!
We were checking out the next day- Monday and checking in to the Wilderness Lodge! I was VERY excited about that! The plan was to go to EPCOT, leave in the late afternoon and check-in and take a rest, then come back to the park for dinner and the fireworks.....but the rain was coming down with thunder and lightening. Stay tuned for part 2!
