Now, I’ve been reading these DISBOARDS camping posts for a few years now and never really joined. I read em at work when the boss isn’t looking (don’t tell...she is a pain and she will get mad). I love all the posts but my favorites are the pictures posted and trip reports. TCD, SHANMAN, BIG DADDY ROG, STACKTESTER, FRANKS FISHING PIG, OTTER LADY, YNOTTONY among many others always entertain and keep me from doing my work each and every day. So, this is it… my first attempt at a trip report.

Let’s get right to it… on the road from Michigan to the Fort. First, we stop in Summerfield Florida for Easter weekend with family. Two solid days of driving is tough for anyone. My buns always get a bit sore after that drive.

Arrive at the Fort, assigned to space 356. We have been to the Fort a few times before and as far as camping spots go, this is not my favorite. Don’t get me wrong but we love the Fort, but behind us was a ton of standing water and there were a lot of mosquitoes around. We have stayed at other loops before and never once seen a mosquito. Anyhow, enough said about that. We still love the Fort.

Now, Disney has this slogan “what will you celebrate”? Well, we had a ton of stuff to celebrate this year… starting with our 20th wedding anniversary. My daughter was also celebrating her 16th birthday (early to be with family). So this theme really worked for us. I painted signs before we left.

I also painted a sign for my brother to emm…uhh…embarrass him a tiny bit. He got a new camper and was across the street from us, so it was only fitting for him to get a sign too.

We had a surprise party planned for our daughter which turned out great. Drivers’ license coming soon! Uh, oh, that means next year at the fort…. GOLF CART FUN!!

We did a few new things this year that we had never did before… Beaches and cream kitchen sink was really cool. To be honest, any ice cream would have been fun, but I like the idea of eating something different as a novelty. You cannot buy ice cream in Michigan that is served in a kitchen sink that I am aware of.

more to come later… including (making pookies?) what you ask is a pookie…. Come back soon and you’ll see.

great tr so far. sounds like you will fit right in. i think frank could use a sign like the one you made for your brother. lol just kiddin' frank.

definitley got me curious about pookies??? i hope it isn't like kungaloosh.. :p

keep the pics coming. looking forward to more. oh and tell the daughter happy birthday. :)

I remember you :yay: We were right next to you! We were in 354 from April 7 - 14. I remember seeing your signs. Thanks for the trip report!

popcorn:: I'm in! Great start and I agree about two days or more on the road.

"Are we there yet?"

Ok, im back and I promised that I would post some pictures of pookies to you all. “Pookies” is just a name my crazy family made up…Its not a cookie, its not a pastry, it’s a little bit of both. When it’s done, it looks like this…viola…popcorn::

We actually saw these being made up north in a German town called Frankenmuth. http://www.frankenmuth.org/

It’s a really fun little town with shops and all kinds of Christmas stuff to see. Anyhow, they make these things inside a restaurant called Zhenders (spelling?). It looked like something fun to make at the campsite so we bought a set of them. Sure enough, they are fun to make with a big group of people. Here are some more pics of “pookies”. You can put all kinds of toppings on them or stay with the classic powdered sugar. A bit different than funnel cakes but the same concept.

I told you we did some new things this time on our trip… one thing was that we went to downtown Disney and finally tried Earl of Sandwich. Fantastico… bravo, bravo… great food. Put that at the top of your list if you go to downtown Disney for lunch my friends…:thumbsup2

We also stopped at the new dinosaur restaurant called T-REX to look inside. Very neat in there…that may be something for next year, but I have to say it was crowded when we went. Here is a picture of that inside.

We also rented a kayak from the bike barn and gave that a try this time. It was a lot of fun but seemed like there was a ton of that green algae for most of the trip around, so it wasn’t quite as nice as we expected.

We went to the magic kingdom and this is my favorite little show there…I get a kick outta the way they mess with the audience and shine the spot light on them. :lmao:

Hoop dee doo dinner show… this was our first time at the hoop dee doo and we really enjoyed it a lot. I found out after we went that you can order anything they have from the restaurant next door, you can get at the hoop dee doo. If I would have known that, I would have gotten a side of mac and cheese…I am a mac and cheese lover and it would have went perfect with that hoop dee doo dinner. But, no big deal…the food was really good and the show was fun. They even had my wife and I stand and dance in front of everyone and acknowledge us for being married for 20 years, which was really nice.

I wanted to add one more thing…my wife is so creative. She took a bunch of t-shirts that we had from over the years and she cut them out, put them all together, added a backing and make a camping blanket. Pretty cool huh.

100_5175.jpg

I told you I was going to make this short and sweet to see how my first trip report goes… so in closing… we had a great time at the Fort, had a fantastic visit with some family, tried some new things and most importantly, had a wonderful anniversary with my perfect wife. Hope you enjoyed the trip report. :)

See ya real soon…

Great job on your first trip report!

I hope the boss didn't catch you.

I love the hand-painted signs.

I was looking at this photo, and I was staring at what looked like a really wide chair sitting there under the bunk-end of your camper. It looks like one of those cheapo waiting room chairs, but it is really wide:

100_5371.jpg

So, I was going to post and ask what is the deal with that wide chair? But, then I realized that is your dryer rack, with a brown towel on it.

So, never mind.

What dates were you there?

I must have just missed you.

TCD

We just walked in the door and from reading your report I want to go back!!! what a way to celebrate milestones!

yup...its a towel rack but i have to say...that would be cool to have such a wide chair.

We were at the Fort from April 5th through the 10th... Spring break may change next year but we will drive down again sometime during the year for another trip...

let me just say the signs painted were a great idea (pat on the back):rotfl:

they were neat because it caused alot of people to stop and say hi and chat for a minute. the birthday sign was great, cuz some real friendly people said happy birthday to her which made her feel good.

i will probably do that again for other occasions. :thumbsup2

thanks for the kind words:)

Bravo on the TR!!!

Awesome pics.

Great idea with the signs!

Glad you enjoyed Earls, and the HDDR pics are making me hungry.

Isn't Frankenmuth the site of the World's Largest Christmas Store? At least according to the billboards along I-75.

In short, what took you so long to do a TR?? Great job!

Great report! I really enjoyed reading it. I'm glad that you had a good time.
Up here in Minn-e-soh-ta we call the pookies "rosettes" All of the Norwegians around here seem to be making them at Christmas.

:thumbsup2 they actually do call them rosettes in Michigan too... thats the way the package said anyhow,,, up in Frankenmuth....

we just made up the name "pookies" sittin around eatin em!! :lmao:

I like the word "pookies" too. It makes it more special when you add your own "twist" to things.

Thanks again for the TR!
