Any of you have a specific tradition that you do every Easter?

I'm interested in hearing what everyone out there does for Easter. (we are interested in starting a new tradition for Trevor)

for fun stuff or Religious things to do?

We still color eggs and have a hunt at our house.
Then this year I want to try the Easter cookies..(which is on the REcipe Board) you tell the story of Christ and then read scriptures as you make the cookies....

I put the Easter baskets out but not filled until everyone is in bed then it looks like the bunny has appeared.

WE also have this little Egg hunt where there are 12 eggs and inside of each is something that reminds of of the Savior....toothpick, the cross....salt and pepper....the spices that were used in his burial...small things like that....

Have fun!!!!!!!!!

Fun and/or religious. I am very interested in seeing what others do. Thanks for your reply.

Our tradition is kinda childish, but it's SO much fun!

Every Easter, after the Bunny comes of course, we all get up and Crystal cooks up a pastry or something good like that. Then, we all, including our parents, dig into our baskets with the following dialoge:

"WOW!...candy...candy...candy....PIN!!!...candy...candy...candy...TOY!!!...candy...candy..."

Of course, every time one of us says "candy" we must toss it over our shoulder into our own piles behind us.:D

Then, after the hunt, we spend time together, stuff ourselves and watch Eastery things on TV!

Of course, with my parents (and the bunny) things could change really quickly.:D

Seems my parents are starting a new tradition this year.......since everyone will be there.....me, son and the ex, Sis, her bf and his 2 sons, Bro, wife and their son..........MOM decided it would be perfect day to dismantle the old above ground pool so the when the guy comes monday to measure for the new inground pool it will be easier!!!!! My ex (hate that term, but what do I say? The Former Husband, My Son's Father? oh......wait......how about THE RAY......that works......lol)......THE RAY (laughing) states: OH heck.........ONLY at your parents would this occur on Easter Sunday!!!! I figure it cannot be an annual tradition......but probably make us uncover the new pool in the coming years!!!!

But at home with my son, we will eat candy, hide eggs we dyed the night before, go to church, talk about the signifigance of this special day, and eat good ham and aparagus......!

Lynnie, LOL!

Seriously ... what do you do with the asparagus ... I know eat it :), but how do you cook the asparagus? I bought some nice asparagus yesterday at the grocery store. Our friends are bringing the ham. I do have lots of other food besides asparagus :).

ahahhahhahahahah
If you only knew how funny asking the 'HATES COOKING' girl about how to do asparagus (decidely the best veggie ever invented by the way)! You can boil it in water, but I steaming retains the flavor (and nutrients) better. Cook until just tender and breaks apart easily but not too slimey!

Oh thought of another tradition THE RAY says his mom used to do....when he and his brother got too old for 'candy only'......his parents would hide notes (like a scavenger hunt) in plastic eggs, with clues as where the next egg was......the final 'prize' was usually tix to a sporting event or something like that......so even as teens it was fun and exciting!

I just made a red ham, potato salad with Hellmans mayo, lots of egg, celery, carrots. We also have kielbasy (polish) with horseradish.

Shoes,
We do the same thing, that is a Hungarian traditional breakfast. You take some sliced eggs, put a slice on a slice of Keilbasi and top with homemade horseradish. The white stuff is the best, it cleans out the sinuses so nice.
I can remember doing this since I was a little girl, but back then my mom would get the really mild horseradish for us kids. It was like a ceremony when we were able to take the tough stuff.
My boys used to love to color eggs on Sat night before Easter. They are all very artistic so each one had to top the next. But this year David is with his girlfriend and he helped her son color eggs. Sean is living with his father now so he wasn't here, and Chris was working. So I colored eggs alone. Boring solid color eggs. Don't ever wish they would grow up, it happens too soon and how I wish they were little again.
I used to hide plastic eggs in the yard, each boy had a favorite color and they had to find their own eggs. Each egg had a little surprise in it, and they were hidden according to the age, as they got older the eggs were hidden better. My mom used to hide colored eggs, until one year my brother failed to find one in the china cabinet. Eggs really stink when they are 4 months old and you drop them.
Whatever traditions you decide on, remember your children will remember them and carry them on with their children too, so it's not so much what you do, but that they remember the fun you all had. Peggie

This isn't so much my tradition, as it is my mother-in-law's, who passed a way a few years ago.

For going to church on Easter, EVERYTHING has to be new. Not just your outfit and your shoes, but even your underwear! Also, the house must be super super freshly cleaned. She said this all is because Easter is about Christ being reborn and we are all starting our lives fresh, but I think it was an excuse for her to buy new stuff - she was quite a clothes horse!

As for the clean house, this fits with her personality as well. She was meticulous, so I can see her finding a reason to tell her less-particular daughter-in-law (me!) that this is the time to scrub scrub scrub!

Wow, I'm tearing up as I type this! I miss her very much...
