Easter or August?

I've, finally, put the deposit for next years holiday in the bank and just need to be convinced that DD (then 9) and I should 'go for it'

I priced up a Virgin 'flydrive' this morning but have just realised that I'd miscalculated Eve's school holiday dates so it'll cost me more

Basically, do I take her out of school for 3 days before Easter (£1,250 approx) or not take her out at all and go in Aug (£1,600 approx)

My original costing was for the 13th March and came to just over £1000 so I'm miffed now and can't make up my mind

We came back two weeks ago after having two weeks at Easter, it was great the crowds were not to bad and the weather was alright we had some rain but mostley it was hot and sunny.
My girls missed the first 2 days back after half term, because going before Good Friday bumped our price up.
I personally would go for Easter.

We did Easter Saturday for 2 weeks, The first week was crazy crowds, 2nd week not as bad. Weather was cold some days, had to buy Fleeces, again 2nd week was better. Are your dates earlier next year? DS has 21st March for 2 weeks so expecting cooler than this year. We prefer August weather but we like it really hot. last year was good not much rain other years we have had really bad rain for 5 or 6 hours a day. If you like hot hot weather like us then Easter is not good.

DD breaks up, from school, on the 21st March so I'd found a reasonable price for the 18th - 16 days

We'll be exchanging our Malta timeshare for accommodation so aren't too worried about where to stay.

I think we may well go with Easter as, although I like it hot, DD isn't too happy about it and is likely to worry about hurricanes etc in August

Probably going to spend the rest of the evening online, pricing up now - wish me luck

11 nights Xmas (DW only just told me today so not even thought about where)
14 nights Florida Easter 08
25 nights Florida August 08

These are certain dates I am sure she will manage to swing some more time off work and fit more in. I think a lottery win would come in handy

Easter v August is a question I have often thought about.

We have been the last two years in August, Julie and Josh found it way too hot - at times 95 degrees last year.
March is different, as we found in 2005 - weather is unpredictable, we had rainy days, sunny days and cold days.

Personally I prefer summer, however I am in the minority in our house and Josh especially comes first, he will have a much better holiday next Easter I am sure.

Hmmm, had a long talk with DD tonight and she's veering towards Easter as she's a worrier and the threat of hurricanes etc (however unlikely) is bound to stick in her mind!

Guess I'll end up going for the easiest option in the end (even if it's not the cheapest )

Think I'm off to take a look at Disney, California before I make a final decision

We did Disneyland area last Oct for 8 nights, Did San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Universal and 2 Disney parks. I would not want to have spent 2 weeks there. Probably going again this Oct but maybe do 5 nights there and 4 Vegas.
Very good for a week but could not spend 25 nights there like Florida.
OT. I wish you would change your message under your name. Every time I read it I want to go down to Cross's butchers on Dewsbury market and buy some Mucky fat

If the crowds at Easter are anything like they were at Christmas then it'd be August for me. We usually go in August and while the cooler weather was nice at Christmas the crowds were horrendous, that would be enough to stop me going then. I also actually like going in the summer

I was thinking of just 5 days in LA and then, maybe, San Diego for a week

Or.....even more exciting....a motorhome for a week

I would go when you prefer the weather, I wouldnt worry about tkaing your kids out of school for a couple of days. they won't miss much in that time.

We have been in May once, weather was perfect and low crowds but don't remember which weeks in May, it was 14 years ago.

We did a split stay one year, 2 weeks Orlando then 1 week Clearwater. Just spent the whole week wishing we were back in Orlando, Overpriced places to eat and not enough for us to do. Where we were was a lot of seafood which DW will not eat. I also don't like beaches so not the best decision we have made.
We love going to Spain, Cyprus, Greece etc for a beach hol but Florida to us is Theme parks. I know others totally disagree

Between Easter and August - We preferred August, as the Spring break crowds were unbelievable

Now you're thinking about May, then I would definitely go for May, the weather isn't so hot and the crowds are lighter - good luck with your planning Alison

If deciding between May, Easter and August I would definitely choose May.
The other 2 months are not ideal weather wise, one can be hot, cold or rainy whilst the other is just toooooooo hot.

Crowds shouldn't be too heavy, certainly not as bad as Easter (shame we go then!).

I completely agree about the coast, maybe not for a week but certainly 4 or 5 days - whilst we love Orlando there are aspects which are becoming 'over familiar' and we feel it's important to vary things just to keep the holiday fresh.
Planning a few days in Fort Lauderdale and Miami next year for a change.

Veering towards May more now I've had a proper think

I'll have to take DD out of school for 4 days before half term and one day at the end (we only get 1 week) - does anyone know whether there are normally any SAT type issues in Year 4?
She'll be 9
