My Children's education authority has decided that although Easter is 21st-24th March they will have their two week break from 7th April.

Will travel companies change their higher Easter holiday price dates or just extend?

Actually I am not sure we will be able to go at any time then because my DW lectures at University and will have a traditional break time and will be back at work when the children are off, bringing up childcare issues also.

I have now been able to look at some prices.

Virgin have availabilities for the two weekes either side of Easter but do not have any availability at the moment for 5th April.

Airtours had a fly drive price on the 15th March for £ 590 but on the 5th April £989

Disney prices seem to be holding to traditional Easter dates.
14 nights at POR starting 15th March for 4 of us £1344 same group 5th April £1162.

It seems next easter will take some planning.

Travel operators overlook the opportunity to maintain a higher margin, fat chance. I'd expect the peek time to extend to any "holiday" period that has higher than ordinary demand. If demand is higher then so will the prices be. It may take the operators a little time to adjust their prices though.

The only people who have not 'upped' their prices are the operators whose prices were published before the LEAs made the announcements to change to the 6-week term.

Hence why VH is dirt cheap for a school holiday period but is also sold out completely on holidays between 29th March and 11th April.

I suspect that any travel agent/tour operator who has not yet released their April 2008 prices will not overlook the opportunity to fleece the great British publice for an extra few hundred/thousand pounds.

Whilst we were prepared to book and take the kids in the school holidays next April, just so they didn't have to miss school, the very fact that we have been quoted over £5000 for a flydrive with Airtours as opposed to £2800 with VH (a week later), I know which I will be going for ;)
