Easiest revised version of the Bible to interpret?

The New English Translation is an accepted academic translation and is readable (no thine, thou, etc.)

That's the version I used in college religion classes 35 years ago, and my kids are using now in college.

NIV, NASB, NLT, etc. are all very readable to the non-hardcore type.

I would steer clear of the literal translations, though they are a hoot to pick up from time to time.

I for one never read KJ, in spite of the fact that so many people out there seem to swear that the KJ is the ONLY true version and the one that Jesus himself read in church... ;-)

Is that really true? I'm Catholic and I always thought that the KJ version was basically the Protestant bible?

Unfortunately, when my ex moved out he took all our bibles. So the other day when I wanted to read something, I had to read the only bible we had, which is a KJ one that my daughter got when she went to church with her friend. It doesn't matter to much too me. .. any bible is better then no bible. But I would love to pick up a good Catholic one, no offense to non-Catholics, but I am Catholic. I was under the impression that our ones have more books.

Everyone feel free to laugh at me, I'm a cradle Catholic.

Bible Gateway is an awesome website. I use it all the time. I also wanted to mention that there is a Bible app for iPhone, iPad. I use it most for my Bible reading and study. It has the different versions as well. You can easily change from NIV to NLT to NAS. For easy reading, I am finding I prefer the NLT lately.

My son is taking a class during J-term at school that is using the ESV. He will not be allowed to use his phone or other electronic Bible during class so we will be buying an ESV for him for class.

I have joined a Bible study group called Community Bible Study this year. I am really enjoying it. It is a non-denominational Bible study. You may want to look into it to see if it is offered in your area.
