Ease my panic, please!

I am woefully ill-prepared for our upcoming WDW trip (unlike our debut trip last year when I had a thorough gameplan). We arrive Mon. July 29 at the Dolphin for a 7-night stay.

We recently got a Starwood membership and I think I have enough points to eke out an upgrade. Should I call now (and whom--the hotel or Starwood?) to try to upgrade for view and complimentary breakfast? Or should I roll the dice
upon arrival and hope for the best? Keep in mind, we have a late night arrival (approx. midnight).

I read a whole thread a while back about Starwood. Try the search feature and see what you find. There are alot of members on this board.

We're new Starwwod members with no points, staying at Dolphin for 8 days in Nov. Based on research here, I'm confident of getting a better than Standard room just by asking politely and calling subtle attention to my membership. It seems that everyone here who tried this got bumped up. I have no choice, but you might try this, then whip out your points when registering if it fails. Good luck.

I believe you can request an upgrade with points 5 days before arrival. Try calling the Dolphin directly. Many do get an upgrade, on our trip in March we did not and still thought the room was fine at the Swan. You will just love the location right by the Boardwalk. Enjoy your trip.

We stayed at the Swan in 12/01, and became Starwood members shortly before we left for WDW. We had no points when we checked in at the Swan, and we received a complimentary upgrade without asking.
