I don't know anything about RCI, really. I think you have to deposit the points as a one-way transaction, what, 45 days prior to their expiration? That's getting kind of close for those of us with June UYs that have had our points put back. Mine were put back and my Easter week reservation automatically cancelled yesterday.

Having said that, RCI is a Hail Mary to me. I could care less about having points sitting in deposit for RCI, but apparently it beats just losing them. At least I have some sort of option as opposed to just losing them.

Here's the thing. That 45 day window is fast approaching. DVCM needs to make a declaration. Right or wrong, they need to declare something. I'm already mad, but not nearly as mad as I'm going to be if I put those points into RCI and then the week after they decide, "Well, we're going to let you bank those points." even if it's with conditions, and there I sit having just put my points on a one-way ticket to RCI. I don't want RCI points. I don't need RCI points. I want to use my points at Disney like I bought them for. I already tried to, but they closed the resort on me and took my week away.

If you have a June UY, what are you doing? Have you decided? Did you even know RCI was an option? What dice are you rolling? Earth's getting mighty big in our (supposed to be) picture window that's looking mighty foggy right about now. :(

I have June UY. About to lose 200 points. I could care less for RCI. Waiting and watching. Don’t know what to do other than watch the rug pulled under our feet!

Have you emailed DVC to see if they will have any Updates before your deadline?

And, I read somewhere else that you can still deposit closer to expiration than 45. The document I found on members website mentions 45 to 14 days.

Maybe a call to MS and double check if April 17th is indeed the final date...unless you already have?

ETA: Points deposited into RCI 45 to 14 days before expiration have restrictions similar to Holding points at DVC.
Thanks to CarolMN for her post below on another thread.
Note: the How to Book RCI page she refers to is under the plan a vacation dropdown on the DVC member website

RCI Disclosure Document is on that How to Book RCI page. Expand the section on Know Before You Book & look for the link at the bottom.

From page 8, (Deposit First section, #2)

Deposit First Exchange Method
1. When Vacation Time, which has been submitted to DVC Member Services by a DVC Member, is deposited by DVCMC with RCI, all rights to the use of same for the week(s) deposited are immediately assigned to RCI. RCI may use that deposited Vacation Time to obtain a Confirmation, to make the Vacation Time available to other RCI Members, or to otherwise use or dispose of the Vacation Time, in its sole discretion. Once Vacation Time is deposited by DVCMC with RCI, the Vacation Time may not be withdrawn; and, therefore, once a DVC Member deposits Vacation Time, it is a final transaction. Reservation of Vacation Time by or on behalf of DVC Members is subject to availability.
2. Vacation Time must be deposited with DVC Member Services no more than 11 months (7 months ifthe DVC Member is depositing Vacation Time from an Originating Resort other than his or her Home Resort), before the commencement date of the deposited week. Deposits of Vacation Time received by DVC Member Services from 45 days and until 14 days before the commencement date of the Vacation Time being deposited also are accepted; provided, however, that such deposits can only be used for an exchange that will occur from 44 days and until 24 hours in advance of the desired Vacation Time.
3. An exchange may be requested for the same time period or for a time period that has a comparable exchange value as the Vacation Time deposited. The exchange request may be placed at the same time that the Vacation Time is deposited or at any time thereafter, but no later than the end of the second calendar year after the date of the deposited Vacation Time.
4. DVC Members may place a request for an RCI Exchange into an RCI Member Resort that is affiliated with RCI Weeks with travel dates of up to 24 months in advance of the check-in date. DVC Members may place a request for an RCI Exchange into RCI Points and The Registry Collection RCI Member Resorts for travel dates of up to 10 months in advance of the check-in date.

This is what I read that seems to indicate deposits can be from 45 to 14 days before. It’s at least confusing to me and not clear that it must be 45 days,

See the edit at the top of my post, and the last sentence in point 2 of CarolMN's post once you expand it

I agree with you. We are Aug Use year so have got a little longer to decide on the RCI thing. We’ve got 200 points booked on May 22nd trip to Poly right now. I absolutely don’t want RCI, but if it comes to it I guess it will be better than nothing. But I will be even more upset if after I move them all to RCI Disney makes the decision to allow the late banking.

June year here too, losing 45 points which may not seem like alot but we usually use each and every one. Not depositing into RCI, waiting for DVC to respond with something. Our trip was to be April3-9th and contacted them many times to be told nothing except hey you can deposit to RCI. No thanks

June UY here too. I originally had a 90 point reservation for spring break in March that was cancelled by DVC. We were able to somehow grab a reservation for Memorial Day weekend so we grabbed that since that would be really our last shot at using those points before they expire. I've been hounding the boards ever since March because I just don't know what to do. I know we can move those points to RCI but I really really really don't want to do that. But I am also afraid of missing that deadline and not having Disney say anything and then ultimately lose all of those points when they end up cancelling our May reservation.

Oh and I'll add that we only have a 200 point contract so this is almost half of that. I know it's not as much as others, but it feels like a lot to me to just go poof gone.

100 points is a lot to anybody. Don't ever apologize for that. Money is money. I've got 181 at risk in all of this, and while I have more, that's 2 trips for us in studios for us which is what we normally do. We just chose to have a 1 BR this time.

We live and drive from NC so we generally choose lesser accommodations to have a greater number of trips. Not my original intention when we bought our points. We bought them in order to stay in a 1 BR 2-3 weeks a year, and quickly discovered we liked 4-5 trips better than we liked the 1 BR. One of the beauties of the system is the flexibility. Ironic isn't it? It's the flexibility we're caught up in this time, to a large extent.

As a last ditch option, Rci has some decent options if you plan. For ex, Lots of places in Hilton Head. Also Hgvc (Hilton) including California and Hawaii (hgvc does bulk deposits at about 15 months out). That’s when you get the good stuff. Join TUG for $10 to get access to sightings bb where people post what they see being deposited into Rci.
I’ve gotten Bermuda, Banff Canada, hgvc Marco island at Easter, and hgvc Hawaii in summer thru Rci thanks to Tug members posing.
I Don’t Recommend deposits under 45 days for restricted Rci points.

In other discussion threads, some members are discussing their May reservations and what to anticipate. We had a May 1st - 10th reservation, which we had cancelled, and now, our dining reservations are gradually being cancelled through the Disney Destinations email account. Right now, dining reservations are being cancelled through May 5, 2020. It seems as though June 1st is the anticipated reopening date.

Not sure why everyone is so negative on RCI, especially as an alternative to losing the points. We have stayed at a number of nice RCI places. I know it's not considered the "best use of points" but after our kids grew up and before grandkids came along going to Disney every year wasn't so exciting. We have 2 large DVC trips booked (one cruise, one grand villas for a week in Aug/Sept.) We're talking 1600 points, a few from banked and some borrowed. You better believe we will do whatever we can not to lose any. We are spring year so we have some time but RCI is an option. Wish DVC would waive the fee.....

I think the biggest concern people have is over the prospect of having to decide to move those points to RCI before DVC has issued a definitive policy decision about whether they will make exceptions to the banking deadlines/expiration of those points.

As of now, DVC is holding firm on banking rules, which makes RCI a better option than just losing the points. But people are worried that as soon as they move those points to RCI, then DVC will announce that those points would have been extended, but you don't qualify because you moved the points to RCI. So everyone is stuck gambling on what they think the ultimate policy decision will be.

Exactly! I'm not opposed to moving my points to RCI. I am just hoping DVC will come out with some kind of an announcement before April 15th. I don't like the feeling of gambling like you said. I just feel like with my luck the minute I move them to RCI DVC will make some kind of an announcement that would have benefited me. I'd much rather keep my points with DVC since we are in South Florida and it's an easy trip for us to make.
