My sister called me at 5:15 this morning and asked "Did you FEEL that???" I had a very spooked cat on my chest but to tell you the truth I DIDN'T FEEL ANYTHING! My sister, who just left San Francisco yesterday, thought she was hallucinating!

I turned on the news and every Mary, Jane and Bubba in Georgia was calling about how they felt the Earthquake. Here's a link to the earliest article.

Good morning Robin!

As you can tell this thing was felt all over this area. Yours is the first article I've seen on it though. I called my local PD and they confirmed it but there's not been a story yet. I don't have cable, so they may have talked about it on the local stations though. It was a bit frightening.

nkjzmom, I was shocked to see the posts about the Tennessee and Alabama posts. I called my sister to tell her. I can tell this is going to be the ONLY story on the local news this morning! :teeth:

I really want to know what it was rated. It sure did shake alot...like someone was standing at the side of my bed pushing it with their knees, back and forth real quick. I don't think I'll get back to sleep.

OMG! That is what it was? Just checked the news they are saying it was a 4.5 and was centered just north of Ft Paine AL. They said we should get aftershocks within 12-14 hrs.
It woke me up, my bed was shaking! I thought that my cat was playing under my bed and hit some springs or something. Had a few videos fall sideways on a shelf. And I am south west of Atlanta. I hope this doesn't become a normal thing here LOL

Would you forward those news reports? Or tell me where I can find some info. I don't have cable....and I've heard nothing about this from our local news stations' websites.

Thanks!

Amy

Boy am I glad to see your post. I thought that my husband was nuts. He wakes up and looks all around the house. He thought someone had run a truck through the house. We live close to Redstone so I didn't think anything about it they are always testing something that rattles the house. Funny I learn about it on the DIS boards and not the news.
We are shake rattling and rolling in North Alabama today!!!

My mother's in Calhoun. I'm going to have to call her and ask if she felt anything.

Local news is reporting it was felt as far NE as NY state!
Seems like just about everyone in this area felt it accept my DH I woke him up and asked him if he felt the bed moving and he said no you are dreaming! On his way to work I called him to tell him it was no dream it was an earthquake! He was like REALLY, your kidding.

Oh, good grief! My mother slept through it!

I just called her. She said my stepfather felt it, that something woke him up at that time, but she didn't (and she's a light sleeper).

Thanks for the link, Cindabella's Mom. WOW! The earthquake happened closer to Calhoun than I thought. I'm hoping that's in the middle of nowhere, but it does look pretty darn close to Lafayette, GA. I wonder if that affected I-59 (I think that's the highway number) in any way.

Megan's Mom, my husband did the same thing. WE are also near the arsenal and he though something had blown up. I havn't been back to sleep. Funny how you can find everything out on the DIS.

lol, this is the first I've heard of it. :) Glad to hear everyone is alright. :)

We felt the quake too, Robin. I'm about 2 hours away from you. My cousin had some problems from the quake. She lives in NE Alabama. I'm not sure what the problems were though (my mom should know not to tell me anything in the mornings when I'm asleep, I don't remember them:teeth: ).

My kids slept right through the quake though.

Parts of the Southeastern United States experienced an earthquake registering a 4.5 on the Richter Scale this morning at 4:59 a.m. EDT.
The U.S. Geological Service says the quake was centered 37 miles south of Chattanooga, near Mentone, Alabama on the AL-GA state line.

Reports indicate the quake was felt as far away as Murphy, NC, and into western Tennessee.

Callers to the WRCB newsroom described a trembling of up to 15 seconds, shaking windows, rocking houses, and wall hangings being shaken.

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.

The US Geological Service is researching, and has complete information on its website, www.usgs.gov.

My SO heard the quake originated in Missouri and we had the after effects. My SIL just told me it was near me instead, so I looked it up. I live about 15 miles from Mentone.

I've heard it's been updated to a 4.9

I was laying in bed half asleep when I heard a deep rumble which I thought was thunder. Then the whole house started to shake. I thought, oh great, a tornado, why didn't my weather alert radio go off? Then it stopped and I considered jumping into the closet with Pete. I fell back asleep thinking it was just a freak micro burst. Imagine my surprise when I heard on the radio, EARTHQUAKE!

I felt it at 5 am this morning! My bed was rattling, and it weirded me out. Of course, I didn't think it was an earthquake, LOL! Now at least I know I'm not hallucinating. :teeth:

I live right next to a driveway with a speed bump. Sometimes a big enough truck going over it is enough to make you think the world just exploded. I probably shrugged it off as that.

My son could sleep through a tornado didn't make a peep. My sister who hears an ant sneeze experienced the whole thing and she lives less than 50 feet away from me! I hope I feel the aftershock because I feel like I missed it!
:p
