Earthquake is closed for refurbishment. No exact date for re-opening.

i didn't think this ride was great, but I was hoping to go on it on our next trip (end of the month) - what a bummer! Oh well....that's the way the cookie crumbles!

It's DH's fault...for the past six months, he kept saying, "Let's ride Earthquake" and we never got around to it (between Mummy and MIB, I can never drag myself away). Now his gratification will be deferred indefinitely.

now thats wild and can't wait to see how good of a job they do with it and hopefully we get to see it next year.

I was sort of suspecting that, especially since it's kind of dated now and Mr. Heston is on his last legs. I sure hope it's a good rehab...looking forward to seeing the new version. Sounds like it has potential.

I have no idea what this means exactly.. They make a few pre-show changes so now they're changing the name of the ride to something generic?

Are they planning on changing E.T. to Friendly Alien?

Revenge of the Bandaged Wrapped Old Guy Who Points A Lot

We'll save them millions in licensing.

I hope they have Disaster up by December 5,6 or 7 as those are our only days there.

Universal Orlando will soon unveil a new attraction called “Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride . . . Starring You.” It will replace the current Earthquake attraction.

Earthquake closed permanently today as work began on the new experience. Initial construction has already been underway inside the attraction for several weeks. Disaster is expected to open in December.

The new attraction will offer guests an all-new experience that combines the best, most dramatic elements of Earthquake with new blockbuster celebrity talent, new ride elements, new digital technologies, interactive components and a new storyline.

“Earthquake has been a popular attraction and a strong part of our history,” said Bill Davis, president and chief operating officer of Universal Orlando Resort. “But we are always looking for ways to create more compelling, more entertaining experiences for our guests. Disaster! will deliver on that goal.”

A specific opening date for the new attraction and more details about the experience will be released soon.

I'm guessing most of this is going to be in the preshow since I don't see how they're going to fit all those things in the main show area.

I guess I'll just have to see it for myself next summer.
