DH and I have maintained an AT&T WorldWide ISP for traveling and for using the laptop at my business. It is so nice to be able to access emails & other internet functions while away from home. We have had problems with AT&T and have just discontinued our service with them. (They changed our acces & security codes and didn't tell us. We couldn't get on while away and DH just spent 3 hours trying to get it fixed. Also found out that they don't support Microsoft Outlook, only Outlook Express.)

So..........

What's your experience with Earthlink and any other ISPs that provide service away from home? Something with and "800" dial-up number is preferred because most hotels don't change for making "800" calls.

Anybody?!?!?!?!

We use Earthlink and love it. We do not have a laptop so I am not up on the 800 service they do have. Earthlink also runs the Star Trek Net service. The difference is with Star Trek you get some extra Star Trek content. You get a pop-blocker with thier service also. I have had very few problems with them. The waiting time on the phone for help varies with time of day and day of the week. It is easy to get phone numbers for different cities. If you are online and need help they also have live chat and email messages for help. You can also get to your email from any pc online even if it is not using Earthlink. They call it web mail. They have many other kinds of services you can get. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM or email me I will try to answer them. If you go to earthlink.net you can explore the services they offer and for how much. Good luck in your search. I will recommend them to anyone if they have the kind of service you want.

I used to have Earthlink. I got a free digital camera from them when I signed up.:) I had a problem with their server sending old messages every now and then. On 3 different occasions, I had messages as old as 9 months being re-sent. I should say EVERY message I had sent in 9 months was re-sent. They kept telling me it wasn't their server. I haven't used them in about a year and a half and my current ISP hasn't had that problem.

I'm also on dial up. I had slow connection speeds with Earthlink. And the dial-in numbers were busy a lot.

I personally can't stand AOL for traveling. I have used MSN on one occasion but can't recall how I liked it. I personally tend to use my parents ISP when I travel it's a cheap way out for me :)

I have Earthlink high-speed service through Time Warner Digital Cable. I love it!! The live help chat is so great - you get answers immediately in a "chat room" type of setting - no sitting on hold listening to the same commercial or Muzak song over and over. And when I have had to call in to tech support, their representatives have always been polite and helpful.
I love their Spam-Blocker and the free webspace - plus you get 8 email addresses with your account (at least with my particular service you do) and I so so so love not getting Spam (as opposed to my Yahoo account, which gets spammed too much).
