Earplanes, anyone?

I'm headed down for a quick trip on Sunday and am recovering from a cold. I often have trouble with my ears on landings and am wondering if anyone has used the Earplanes to help. :listen:

Years ago, a flight attendant taught me to hold a set of beverage cups over my ears to keep the quick-changing pressure in the cabin from heading straight to my ears. It sounds silly (amd looks even worse! ) but it works. I'm wondering if the Earplanes work the same way.

Any thoughts - anyone tried 'em?

TIA! :thumbsup2

My DD has used them with good results. She had horrible problems with her ears on flights. Her doc said it was likely as a result of all the allergies she has, since congestion can make flying really uncomfortable. She'll take a Sudafed in advance, and then use the earplanes. You have to put them in before the flight takes off and then she leaves them in the whole time (although I think the instructions give directions for if you want to take them out mid-flight and then re-insert them). DD thinks they work as far as relieving pressure and ear popping, but she says the outside part of her ear is a little sore at the end and they impair your hearing, so she couldn't listen to her ipod.

My DD has cried from earpain on airplanes. The ONLY remedy that seems to have worked is Earplanes.

I use earplanes on every flight due to having small ear canals. I used to use the cups on my ears as a child, until too many flight atendants told me that it doesn't work (and I felt silly doing it!). I might be unusual, but I don't feel pain ascending, only descending. Therefore, I only put my earplanes in midflight (before the descent begins). They do help me. I still feel pain, but nothing like it would be without the earplanes. Good luck.

Wow! Thanks so much for your replies! :)

CJK, I am like you in that I only get the pain when descending - I love takeoff! :thumbsup2

I'll keep stopping by this thread, if anyone else wants to share!

YES - my kids swear by them. For some reason, I did not pick them up for our last unexpected trip. They were so miserable that I ran to Walmart when we landed to pick some up for our flight home. I think sometimes they can handle the air pressure but other times, only Earplanes will keep them pain free.

I will be sure to buy them new sets for our May trip!

Yep, I won't fly without them.(Without the earplanes, I get pain and then it can be days before my ears finally "pop"). I put them in pre-take off, take them out after we get to soaring altitude and put them back in at the first sign of change in altitude. :thumbsup2
