Earning Money through ThreadUp?

I'm seriously considering doing a closet cleanup on my stuff and utilizing ThreadUp. I have a bunch of gently used clothes and a few still with tags on.

For those of you who have used ThreadUp, what kind of results did you garner in terms of earnings? Do you find out if they don't take everything?

I love that I can simply turn around and take this money and apply it toward our Disney trip. Because having dresses from Anne Taylor and Banana Republic that I wore twice and don't fit me now seems really quite silly when I can make it turn into cash. But if it doesn't really pay out I can find alternative means of selling them.

When I first started using ThredUp, they accepted pretty much everything in my Clean-Out Bag and the payout was much greater; I think I earned $10. The second time, they only accepted a few items and I only made $2.70. Both times I got an emailed statement showing what they accepted, and both times I got credit to use on future purchases.

I think the current payout options are new so can't speak to those, and it looks like there's also a consignment option now. You now have to pay for a bag, too -- something ridiculous like $10. They were free when I started.

Long story short, ThredUp has become very popular and more "competitive," and it doesn't pay as well as it once did. Unfortunately.

A friend of mine just suggested Mercari, so I tossed a few of those items up for sale a little bit ago. I don't have to send those items away. I'll hold off and do the nicer items that could turn a heavier profit with ThreadUp or RealReal.

Just a follow up from my last post on Mercari...I sold a Lularoe skirt in less than an hour for $24 and $21.80 of that is hitting my lil' Disney savings fund. Woot!
