We bought a resale timeshare this month, and I was allowed to charge the entire purchase ($3500) on it, without paying the VISA fees.

That puts me at 276 bucks......I hope I'll hit 400 by our August trip!

That's great Julia. Also a bit unusual since most places won't allow credit card purchases like that. I've tried a couple of times to pay for a car purchase with Visa but the dealers wouldn't let me. I realize why, of course. They would be stuck paying 2% of the purchase in fees.

We use our reward card (Marriott and AOL, not Disney) everywhere we possibly can. The usual bills, groceries, gas, local-long distance-cell phone bills, auto insurance premiums, alarm company, magazine and newspaper subscriptions, internet access and more. In fact, I hardly ever pay for anything with cash. We easily charge over $30,000/year. Of course, we NEVER carry a balance so we never pay a penny in interest charges. But we certainly reap the rewards of all the points we accumulate.

Its a nice treat when you get to use your card for a big ticket item like your timeshare purchase. It never hurts to ask if you can pay by credit card when you are faced with a bill for anything. They just might say yes and let you get a bunch of extra reward points.

sadly enough, it was due to procrastination that I was able to do so. I called the agent to let her know were would be sending it out with an personal check. She said there would be a 10 day hold, which we okayed, and then she called back and said they would waive the fees if we put it on our credit card. I guess she wanted the transaction done quickly!

We tried to put some or part of our recent car purchase on the card (a new Honda) but weren't allowed, unless we paid the fees, which, of course, defeats the purpose.

Congrats! We just bought in the Disney Vacation Club this year and I put that on our disney visa. We also charge everything on there and pay it off at the end of the month. I have enough disney dollars to pay for 2 nights at the Poly later this month.

Enjoy spending those hard earned disney reward dollars!!:wave2:

This might be dumb but I'll ask anyway. How do you go about redeming your $? Do you call them and tell you want to use them? Is there a special form? If so how long does it take to get the $.
I just applied for a card that pays reward and I was just wondering how this works. Haven't got the card yet.

With the disney visa, I just log on to their website (where I have already established an online account) and I have them sent to me from there. I can request how many I want too (I think there is a 20 dollar minimum).

Check out the website - they've changed it from ordering the coupons to ordering a 'credit card' that holds your rewards points. I went on-line and ordered my 'rewards card' with only $20 on it (the minimum) - that way I can call the # on the card right before I leave to have as many of my points as I want instantly transferred to the card ! Also insures that if my trip gets cancelled for any reason, I'm not stuck with points that have an expiration date on them - I can also get the last bill's points moved over right before we go!

This is a much better system! - the points can also be used anywhere, rather than the old way of specifying TDS or WDW, etc. ! We put our DVC purchase on the card also and will have almost $500. by Jan - that will cover most of our sit down meals - then I can start saving up points to send with my sister on her next trip - easy way to help her out and doesn't 'cost' me a thing !!:smooth:
