Earmuffs in June? Update 7/5 Trip Report Link!

Joining in! I love Port Orleans-Riverside, and I think you all will love it as well. You are doing a good thing by staying at an offsite hotel the first night. There was only one time that we did not do this, and we wasted 3/4 of a day and were so tired at the end of the first full day!

Enjoying your plans--your kids are so cute!

Hi Stacey! It's me, Heidi!! I just read your first few posts and I'm already exhausted even thinking about organizing anything with that many people! Lol!!

Can't wait to read more!

And still reading :goodvibes. I am with you on wishing February was DONE! :lmao: LOVED the mini TR, Pictures are wonderful! :)

My notifications have all been going to spam, so I had no clue I had responses!

Do you do most of your going from place to place by your own vehicle? Or do you mostly use the Disney transportation system? I want to plan more hopping around into our trip - we've randomly done it in the past but have found ourselves mostly in one park per day and base ADR's on that park. And we've not ever had a vehicle there with us to consider that over Disney transportation but there have been times we wished that we did. Just wondering if a rental is worth it in that regard?

Sci Fi Diner - love their quirky movie clips - kids do, too! :thumbsup2

We are on the 'every 2 year' visit as well. It will be 2 years this May since our last trip, so technically, it will have been 2.5 years by December. So I know exactly what you mean by savoring every little bit... seems to go by far too fast. Your trip plans sound great! The relaxing bit seems to be fitting in well!!

We drive, so we always have our car. For us, I couldn't imagine not having a car. We will likely have 2 strollers, cranky kids (with them so young), etc. We had no problems driving last time and found parking very manageable. We often walked from our spots instead of taking the trams and we beat them almost every time. My husband won't fly, so I predict only car trips for us!

Just joined and read through your PTR...and the mini TR ;) I'm planning on taking my niece to BBB, hopefully she enjoys it as much as your little princess.

We will also be staying at POR with 7 family members. Maybe one day we can do a BIG family trip. The kids would definitely love it. Good luck with all your planning...can't wait to read more!

Welcome!!! Thanks for joining! When are you staying at POR? I hope a big trip will be fun! We had a medium trip last time and had a great time. I'm trying to be stress free.

Welcome! Thanks for joining! I think staying offsite is a smart plan. And we are actually still "onsite" technically, I suppose, since the hotel is on property. And thanks for the compliments about the kids. They are a joy!

Hi Heidi!!! I never would have guessed it was you by your screen name. :lmao: I am not exactly organizing anything, though. We are kinda all making plans and crossing paths, KWIM?

thank you!!! Every day that ticks away is one closer to the end of February! I hit my 4 month mark TODAY!!!!

UNDER CONSTRUCTION:

Travel Itinerary- It's safe to say this will change many times! But that's what this PTR is for. Thinking aloud. Well, thinking in type would be more accurate.

June 22: Put kids in the car at about 4am. Drive and drive until we hit the Florida border. It should take us about 12 hours. MIL and FIL will be caravaning with us.

June 23: Leave hotel by 7am. Hope to arrive in Orlando by early afternoon. Check in at Best Western (it's on property but I'm not sure WHERE) for the night. We DIDN'T do this last time and regret it. We wasted an entire 3/4 day. This time we decided that we wanted to have an entire day at the park on our first day in order to get the most of our stay. Back on track...check in at Best Western. Then we are going to take a DVC tour. JUST TO LOOK! :lmao: After the tour, we'll definitely explore DTD. We're going to get an EARLY sleep so we can be ready to go in the morning!

June 24: Disney Hollywood Studio- rope drop. MUST dos: Toy Story Mania. We want to do ToT and RRC, but will probably wait until the bigger group is with us. We have another DHS day planned later in the week. Sophie is dead set AGAINST ToT. I know she'll love it. I think her 11 and 13 year old cousins can convince her later. PLUS, let's give her some time to get into the "magic." First days can be hard. We have a 4pm ADR at 50's Prime Time Cafe. Head to Port Orleans Riverside after dinner to check in, unpack, swim, explore, relax, etc. Since we aren't aiming to hit the BIG ones at DHS, we can aim to be a bit more relaxed. Hoping for an earlyish bedtime.

Up Next: June 25-June 27

We're going in June (early June) too and also leaving at 4am. Though you might want to recalculate that 12 hours to the Florida border. It will be more like 16. We always love to stay in Valdosta which is the last town in Georgia. Then we stop at the Florida welcome center in the morning to get our first taste of Florida (literally free OJ). It's about a 3 hour drive from there to Disney. :)

Thanks for joining!!! My directions are terrible. My dh does the driving. I know we always say about 18 hours (more like 19ish). We are doing 12 hours one day and 6 ish the next. Or maybe he said his goal is florida border first day and then finish the rest the next and I just assumed 12 and 6. Who knows! I don't care, as long as I get there and the kids are still in control when we arrive!

Great PTR! We're also going in June, staying at CSR for our honeymoon!! PS your kids are ADORABLE!!!

Is it Sophie's first time on ToT? Only half a day at Animal Kingdom? I would have thought your kids could spend half a day just in the Boneyard. :rotfl:

Thank you so much! And congrats on the honeymoon (well, the marriage too, of course!)

Yep...she didn't go on it back in 2007, and honestly I think she's terrified, so I'm not sure she'll do it (and I'm not going to push her). She has even nixed haunted mansion. Her cousins might offer some incentives. As for AK, it's just SO HOT there in June. It seems so much hotter than the other parks. I have been pouring through tour guide mike, however. I'm hoping some of is tips will make AK a bit less congested and more enjoyable. This would be our second day there, by the way. We have one full day planned earlier in the week. Last time 3/4 of a day was enough, though dh and sophie did go back with his brother and family for extended hours. We'll have to see.

Onto the last portion of the trip...sigh

July 1st: We will check out of POR this day and move onto POP Century. This was an add on. I'm not sure if we will go ahead and do this during the day, or just move our stuff after the parks that day. I'm hoping to have only the clothing we'll need for the remainder of the trip ready so we don't have to pack/unpack several times.

pirate:I JUST booked Pirate's League for all three kids at 9am! Sophie is PSYCHED. She was waffling between BBB and not doing anything at all. Then she saw a few youtube videos with girls doing Pirates League and she almost peed in her pants. She's super excited. Ethan is excited as well, but he only wants to do it if he can be a "good" pirate. I'll have to talk to the CMs there and make sure they are gentle with him and lay off of anything scary. Finn doesn't want to do this at all. But I know he will once he sees the other two. I have the reservation for all three, but will cancel within the 24 hours if he is adamant.

11:30 ADR Liberty Tree Tavern with a large chunk of the family

The rest of this day is flexible. If the family is hanging around MK, we will probably do the same. Otherwise we'll probably head to DHS for the evening.

July 2: Magic Kingdom or wherever we feel we need more time. We'll likely hang with the cousins this day as much as possible. we have no ADRs on this day.

July 3: time to leave. Sad day! I have a feeling we will be feeling ready. We will have 9 full days in the park (not counting that first DVD/DTD day). Plus all the crowds will be pouring in for the 4th of July. We hope to drive a huge chunk on this day so we can have a short drive on the 4th. Both Scott and I have to work on the 5th (I work from 7-9am in the school office during the summer for some extra cash). Sophie starts gymnastics camp on the 5th as well. I have the feeling she may be slightly exhausted! She is on the team, and this is heavy training. She'll be in training from 15-30 hours a week this summer (we have the choice to do just the training for the team and/or to do training and recreational). She'll probably just do the 15 hours this first session. I've digressed. I'm tired and rambling now!

Up next: probably random updates and more detailed plans

Pirate's League sounds like a great alternative to BBB, for someone Sophie's age. I'm sure they will all be some of the most fearsome pirates around. :goodvibes

Good move on leaving before the 4th of July. That's one Disney experience I don't want. :thumbsup2

My DD's loved Pirate's League! And don't worry about warning them to be gentle...they are fun, and cute and totally go with the vibe of your kid! I know that my DD's would do this again in a heartbeat, they had sooooo much fun! We did too now that I remember, there was a "pirate" CM who wasn't busy, so he started stealing the boxes around the shop and built a desk so that he could start "taking inventory" of all the booty laying around the shop!! We weren't sure what he was doing at first, but once we figured it out...he was so much fun to watch with his pretend paper and pencil counting everything in the shop!!:rotfl: It was fun walking around the park afterwards as well, everyone kept ooohing and awwwing the girls, they loved it!:thumbsup2

I have yet to book the Pirate's League for our June trip. I just keep going back and forth about whether it is a good idea to take away from our park time. I know my son would enjoy it, but my daughter won't be old enough until next year so I just don't know whether it's worth it to take away from our touring plans this year. If we don't do it, you need to let us know how it went. It's def. something I want to try in the future.

I struggled with that as well. We will be in the parks for a good amount of time. I figured by then we'd have few or no things on our to do list. Plus we have a full day the next day. I also wanted to be sure to book it early in the day to avoid back ups.

That's a good idea scheduling it early. We just talked about it again tonight and my husband said he wants to try it with my son so worse comes to worse, if the little one can't stay settled, I will take her out and do something while he stays with my son and does the Pirate's League. We are traveling with others too so we could always spend time with them on attractions. ;) I think you might have convinced me to do it. :thumbsup2

Remind me when and how many days you are going for again? You don't have a PTR going, do you?

I think they'll be dastardly pirates! I just hope Finn cooperates because I think he'll be an adorably dastardly pirate! And yeah, heading out before the 4th is important. At first I was bummed that we'd be either traveling or just coming home in the evening of the 4th since it's one of my favorite holidays, but then I remembered that I will probably have my fill of fireworks by then!

That is so fun! Do you have pictures of the girls? I'd love to see what they did!

I love Liberty Tree Tavern! My son would like to do Pirate's League, too.

I hope the kids like it! I've never been to LTT and am excited! I love historical stuff and I think it will be right up my alley!

I need to go back and catch up but I read a bit about Ethan on Judy's TR and as a CHD adult that diden't have to have surgery as a child I just had to stop by and "meet" your family. I am in awe over the idea of a trip with 30 ppl I can't wait to hear all of your plans!

This is their before pic...it was a surprise and it was tough getting them to wear matching t-shirts without giving them a reason why...they were cool with it once they found out why!!! LOL!!

Oldest DD, 9 at the time:

Youngest and the most afraid of EVERYTHING at the time she was 5:

She INSISTED on having the scariest pirate face there...even the Pirate CM doing it was surprised!!

Every trip they get one big gift from us and DD9 picked:

The outfit that matched her makeover, sorry the pic is a bit blurry, but it's the only one that shows the whole dress off. Let me tell you, having dinner with Cinderella and the Prince was just a little off with DD's dressed as pirates!! All the other little girls were dressed as princesses, specifically Cindy, and mine were pirates!!:rotfl: Got some funny looks that night!!
