Early September events at Disney World and Universal?

We're looking into going September 2015, and going on a 3-day Disney cruise when we're there. And when we go, the cruise will the at the beginning of our trip and the WDW part after.

We're having trouble deciding on a departure date because while September 4 would work better for us, I keep thinking there are events going on at both places that happen around Labor day that we'd like to avoid. This would mean we may have to push it back to the September 11 sail date.

Is it Night of Joy at Disney? And what is it at Universal? I just remember having to avoid it last year but I can't remember what it was and I'm having trouble finding it. Fwiw, we don't mind Labor Day. In fact, in 2011 and 2013 we found them both to be very calm and not noticeable. But Labor Day will be September 7 that year.

Disney has Night of Joy and Universal has Rock the Universe annually at the beginning of September.

Night of Joy will be Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th at Magic Kingdom this year. Universal has Rock the Universe the same nights.
I think they will be the weekend after Labor Day, not the weekend of in 2015.
You might also consider that time of year can be peak hurricane season which could affect your cruise.

Is there any way to know if it'll be the weekend after? I tried googling it, and it said September 4-5, 2015 but ideally we'd like to just be on our cruise at the same time to avoid it completely.

We know it's basically the peak of hurricane season. It's okay, we're willing to take the chance. It's rare that cruises are ever canceled or endangered, they just find new ports of call or cruise away from the storm and that's okay for us. From what I read too, hurricanes are more likely to hit more west at this time of year, toward the Gulf and Mexico. Also, we'll have insurance. :goodvibes
