Seems like some of the parks will open at 8:00 am during Christmas week. I assume that means that early opening will be at 7:00am. Is it worth it to get up that early? I assume I will have to catch a bus from AKL no later than 6:30 to go to early opening at MK. This means I'll have to get everyone up before 6:00am.

been posting this question for a while now but have struggled to get a reply....As a couple to us its worth it, hell i can sleep when my vacations over but it may be a struggle with children..My question is however which attractions will actually be up and running at that time in the morning...

This past Fourth of July MK opened very early(I believe 7a.m.), and it was well worth it to go. We had no waits until about lunch time, then we were OUT OF THERE!!

We were there last Dec 20-29th. On the Days when MK opened at 8:00 and they had EE it did in fact open at 7:00. We got there at 7:30 on 12/21(Sun) and at 7:00 on 12/28(another Sun and my birthday ;) ).
The first time when we arrived it was deserted. A CM was standing alone after the bag check area, before the turnstiles. He asked if we were staying on site and we replied yes. He then said come on in! :D We went right in and walked up a fairly deserted Main St. It was a great photo op with all the decorations and very few people around. DSs even got to see Buzz with no line as he was standing there alone too. The rides were all walk on, but of course the crowds grew as time went on.
On 12/28 it was more crowded, but still, doing EE was a great help. We walked on Buzz twice and Astro Orbiters before breakfast. This was now the end of our trip so we didnt feel the need to do as much and DS wasnt feeling well so we didnt do as much as we could have. As the day went on it got extremely crowded.
I think EE at MK is well worth it that time of year.
And one more note...be sure to check the EE schedule when you arrive. Since Christmas was on a Thursday last year they changed the EE days that week. Wed & Thur were swaped. Not sure what they will do this year, maybe nothing, but keep it in mind. :D

keep in mind that the parks are open later too. If you are at the parks till the midnight closing time, I wouldn't want to plan on being at a 7 am EMH. We were there last year from 12/27 to 1/2. It almost seemed like if you could be there by 7 am so you had the full hour, then it may be worth it but if you can't get there till half way through, then don't bother and just go to a different park.

We were there last year 12/27-1/1 and my new step-neice(10) had never been to WDW..So we had to do the fantasyland rides. I shouldn't say had like it was torture...we really do all enjoy these rides, but I don't believe any of us would stand in a 45-60 minute line to ride any of them..We were walking into MK in darkness...but boy was it worth it...we walked onto all the fantasyland rides, then hit some of the big ones and were out of the parks and back to the hotel for a mid-day break/swim/rest, so we could head back to the parks later in the afternoon/evening.

Getting up my nephews (13,15) wasn't easy at that hour, but they managed and we all had a great time!

One thing I noticed is a lot of people don't realize the parks general opening has moved from 9:00 to 8:00, so resort guests are showing up at 8:00 and the non-resort guests are arriving at 9:00, so it's kind of a double bonus.....But by 9:30 the parks were packed!

Go enjoy, rest in the afternoon!

it's been really worth it to go so early. We are night people, so enjoy the dark, so getting up early isn't much of a problem..........neither is staying up late. HOwever, afternoons are horrible for us. So, we'd always close a park, go sleep for 6 hours, get up and open a park, then after lunch, go back to hotel and sleep another 3 hours before going back to a park. We went when my older son was 4, 6, and then last year when he was 8 and our baby was 10 months. Never a problem getting our son up ........he hardly sleeps anyway, and the baby was easy!

Anyway, EE was the ONLY way to see Fantasyland in my opinion. Otherwise, you could spend a whole day waiting for those rides. We always rode dumbo and pooh twice, and everything else once with no more than 15 minutes wait. We've always gone at Spring Break or summer because I'm a teacher and can only go when school's out........so it's always pretty busy. EE was also the best way to ensure my son got his fill of the MOuntains, ToT and RnRC. I don't think we would've done any of these more than once without it. During Spring Break when he was 6 and 8, we rode each one 4 times in a row on the respective EE days with the most wait being about 30 minutes on the 4th ride of RnRC and Big Thunder. Right after the two big mountains on the one side of the park, we'd go over to Tomorrowland and do Buzz twice and then Space Mountain. By that time, we'd be waiting 35-45 minutes or so for Space. That would be one EE day and the other would be Fantasy land and then hop to Splash and Thunder. AK would always get rid of Safaris first, then do the raft ride..........but we don't want to do that so early this trip since it'll be colder. Those always built up big waits later. MGM we always caught the first Little Mermaid show after our RnRC and ToT...........we love the Mermaid! We found it was absolutely essential to do Test Track with EE as it just got way too long a line later, at Epcot. The rest seemed okay all morning.........but that was before Mission Space.

We are doing two things for the first time this trip: going at Christmas and taking a toddler. The biggest problem I see here is Christmas Eve and Day, and how to stay in a park all day since we may not get back in if we leave. We have PS for dinner both days, so really want to make sure we can keep them by staying in the park. It's at the end of our trip too, so who knows?

Good luck deciding what's best for you!

If at all possible get up early and go! It is well worth it to be there early. Eat in your room too, don't waste the short line time eating! Also check with the front desk about the "real" opening time and the first bus time. If crowds are really high it might be a little earlier than posted. Be sure to get a fast pass as you leave for your afternoon rest. Most likely by that time one of the big rides will have several hour wait times. Then you will have one for sure ride when you return! :teeth:
