Some friends of ours just recently got back from WDW.

They had an 8am flight home on Delta.

They were asked to be at the ME loading area at 4:45 am.

They could not do the resort check-in that morning because the desk didn't open till 6am.

They were also told they couldn't check in the day before, because you could only check your luggage for the flight up to 12 hours ahead of time.

Since their bags were already packed and ready the day before, they instead stored them with luggage services. That way, they would only have one small bag to deal with early the next morning.

Their luggage was stored underneath the bus by the driver, and then they checked in for their flight at curbside.

The 12 hour rule is either a TSA or airline rule (can't recall which off the top of my head!) so Disney is pretty stuck there. (To be honest giving airlines luggage that far in advance just gives them a chance to lose it! LOL!)

Got to admit I would probably rent a car for the last day to avoid a 4:45 pick up!

That's what we're doing! To avoid a 4:30 am pick up (we have a 7:30 flight), we're going to return our rental car to MCO instead of the Swan/Dolphin....keeping it overnight didn't add anything to our 5 day rental and this way we can leave at the "civilized" hour of 6 am!

But we're doing ME on our way to Disney.....and, nobody flame me!.....we'll tell them when we get to the resort that we're going to get ourselves back to the airport on the way home.

Is there much difference in cost of Taxi and a towncar one way?? We have a 6:30am flight back and what a horrible way to leave Disney...at 3:30 in the morning  But then again I guess that's not too much different than leaving at 4:30am or 5 am.

Geesh, this is the one time I wish the airline would change our flight to a later time.

I just booked my Tiffany towncar this morning for my Oct. trip. ME seems like too much of a hassle to me and not worth the free ticket. (Plus I want my grocery stop.)

You are not obligated to use the service both ways....you can book the DME service 1 way or RT.... we had a 5 night cash stay reserved for the CR with DME booked both ways...decided to add a night on our DVC points before checking into the CR...since it is through DVC it is a completely seperate reservation....so DVC member services just booked DME for us from the airport to VWL on arrival and I called and cancelled the trip the next day but left the return DME trip at the end of our stay from the CR back to the airport. No one seemed to have a problem with that...in fact when I booked the CR trip the TA asked me if we wanted DME 1 way or RT.
