Early morning flight out of Pittsburgh

Looking at different times out of Pittsburgh for August, and one of the nonstop flights on Southwest for a lower price is at 5:30 in the morning. On one hand it would be good to be able to use our whole first day, but we have never flown this early. What time should we get to the airport? We would stay at a nearby hotel if we did choose this flight. Also, what time does the airport check-in and security gate even open? Thanks!

We have flown twice put of pittsburgh at 6 am. We park at globe parking and they shuttle is over to the airport. We are only twenty minutes or so from the airport so we left our house around 4 and we were through security before 5. We grabbed breakfast and took it to the gate with us.

We thought about staying at the Hyatt at the airport, but it's pretty expensive and not worth it because we live so close. There are other airport hotels that will shuttle you to the airport.

If you are going to a hotel and want to use their shuttle, be sure to ask if it's 24 hours.

We usually take the first SW flight out of PIT. When we do, we stay at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott. They offer free parking and a free shuttle to and from the airport. We schedule the shuttle for about 2 hours before departure.
